Hi , can anyone help me finding out which capacitor is responsible for the less bass in the lead channel of the Blues deluxe Reissue. I'd like to have some more bass in the lead channel when switching from clean to crunch. The loss of bass is to extrem in my opinion.
I found already some informations about the hodrod deluxe where the C23 is cutting the Bass. But I dont think that will be the same c23 in the blues deluxe ri , because this one is in front of the bright switch.
Have anyone expirience with that?
Thank you in advance

Mark

Hi golzi,

It is not as simple as changing a capacitor, there are several caps and components that are different between the BDRI and HRDlx, and the HRDlx is the same, less bass on drive channel. The HRDlx adds another half of a tube to the drive channel (among other differences). If you did change the components to increase bass on the drive channel for the BDRI, the bass would then be too booming on the clean channel, as both channels use the same signal path. It's normal for these amps to have less bass on the drive channel, use the "Bass" knob to increase or decrease bass.

C23 is the bright cap. Its effect is primarily on the clean channel. However, it acts in conjunction with C53 which is only in the circuit when the drive channel is selected, to roll off the bass . When the clean channel is in use, C53 is shorted out. If you want to increase the bass in the drive channel, leave C23 alone and run a jumper across C53 so it is always shorted out. Doing so, however, may make the bass muddy when in drive. You can try it, but you may be better off just turning up the bass control in drive.

Thank you for your support. I already thought that it could be the C53 but i was not shure at all. I will now try with different values of C53 to get a bit more bass into the lead channel to switch between clean and crunch without using the bass knob while playing.
I will send feedback from the results :-)

Thanks again!

Mark

You can use this calculator to approximate the impact of changing C53 before breaking out the soldering iron. I say "approximate" because the circuit in the model is slightly different than the BDRI circuit but it will get you close.
