Well, I finally picked up my amp yesterday, (bought it used at GC and it was on hold as they always do with used gear!) and after reading all the complaints that people on the forum seem to have, I was a little concerned! (I didn't read the posts until AFTER I bought it, naturally! LOL)
I shouldn't have been concerned. Man! This thing SINGS!!!

Played thru it for four hours and still haven't scratched the surface of what it will do! Love the cleans! Still experimenting with the over-drive...but I will say this...it is not as bad as I was lead to believe! There are so many adjustments, and you CAN fine-tune it, and the owners manual does not cover the amp in depth. I think some probably have rushed to judgement on the OD section of the amp...probably because the clean side is so simple! Then again, I'm a simple rhythm player...a few single note things...but maybe my needs aren't as complex as some others.

But I played my MIM Players Deluxe Strat, my old, OLD 1964 Gretsch Tennesssean, my g/f's Bonnie Raitt and her Epi es 295 Scotty Moore through it and this amp makes ALL these guitars sound awesome!

Great bass, shimmering high-end, and, yeah, it's LOUD, but I was able to play it til 1am in my house with no complaints. (But I WILL be looking into an attenuator of some kind to experiment with!)

Love the rich warm sound, but still articulates well, and when I want it to bite, it bites hard! I take a LOT of time with my amp setup because I like to get it set so that I get most of everything I need by adjusting the guitar, not the amp, so I don't have my back to the audience. (That was another reason I bought my Deluxe Player Strat, versatility of pickup selection).

Ran my delay pedal with just a bit of slap thru the effects loop (pre-amp out, power-amp in) and dialed up the amps' reverb...wow! Great depth without being sproingy.

In checking out the amp cosmetically, it is just about mint condition...made in USA, so it's gotta be a bit older than the MIMs, but I doubt it was ever played much at all. The logo faceplate still had the protective plastic on it and the rest of the amp is perfect, not a scratch anywhere...just a little dust. I think it just sat somewhere for a long time. (I bought a cover for it to keep it as nice as possible)

The ONLY slight critique I can make is the chrome control panel is kinda hard to read in certain light, but once you get used to where the controls are, its no big deal. And you have to be very subtle with the control knobs...especially the volume control, but its not as bad as I read on other posts. (Maybe I just got a good amp?) And, again, an attenuator will help that anyway!

And I got a great deal, with warranty!

So, for anyone considering the HOT ROD Deluxe amp, it's like a lot of the guys say here, you just have to actually try it out yourself and put it thru its paces!

Count my post as a rare POSITIVE review!

Congrats MrMajstyk!

Another positive review here, 14+ years and counting for my US made HRDlx I. Needed new filter caps about a year ago, and I just recently changed the original output tubes for some new GT6L6. The originals were still working, and sounded fine, just trying something new. After 14 years of service, the originals have performed perfectly, but one has "worn" a little more than the other. I have been through a few noisy preamp tubes over the years. The new output tubes do sound just a bit sweeter than the originals. :)

Hey Shimmilou,

Did my first real all-night gig with it Thursday night. Great sounding amp! All the guys in the band loved it too! Had a great "Fender" night actually...played my 'new' Deluxe Player Strat thru my 'new' Hot Rod Deluxe amp! (I use 'new ' because as you know, I bought both used just recently).

However, on Tuesday, prior to the gig, and just to be on the safe side, I built a Volume Box and ran it thru the pre-amp out/power-amp in (effects loop)! It worked perfectly and no tone loss at all! (I got the schematic from the FDP)
I was able to dial in everything I needed for tone, and used the Volume Box for overall volume. It was awesome!

I was in "Fender Heaven"!

Congrats on the new kit!
Hope your good luck continues for you, as you are gigging it!

I must be a glutton for punishment, I just picked up yet another BDRI (not working) off kijji for 200$.
Am suspecting it will be a simple resoldering fix.
This will be my third attempt with one of the hotrods :?

Is yours the 3 version which came out in 2010 ? If so, you have a far better speaker with the Celestion GP-1280 that it comes with. Also, switching out 12ax7 preamp tube in the V1 slot for a 12ay7 preamp tube, will solve your 'Way too loud all the sudden' issue. This tube swap will allow you to use your volume dial with greater control from 1-12.

Those are great amps and with a couple simple tweaks such as changing the Preamp tube line up along with a speaker upgrade for something more effecient that can handle the amps out-put without loosing its integrity, makes those amp a real standout in my opinion. They are Fenders best selling amp and for good reason. The Celestion GP-1280 and the italian made Jenson C12K speakers, are very popular with these amps as being used for a more effecient speaker upgrade.

Congrats & best wishes with your new investment !
