Just got some new tubes I wanna install into my 95 era fender blues deville 212 as soon as possible.

I know the 2 larger ones are the same tube so it wouldn't matter which one I plug in there.
With the three smaller tubes, 2 are the same and one is different. The different one is supposed to go into slot v3.
I just wanted to get a confirmation on which slot is in fact v3.

Do you count 1, 2, 3 after the 2 large tubes, meaning the most left tube next to the second large tube is v1, or do you count 1, 2, 3 from the right meaning the far right is v1?

In the blues deville manual, the parts are labelled alphabetically with A starting on the farthest right small (preamp?) tube.

thanks

Looking at the back of the amp, counted in order from right to left, V1, V2, V3, are two preamp and one phase inverter (PI) respectively, and V4 and V5 are output. The PI (V3) is the one closest to the larger tubes (output tubes), and this is typically where a balanced tube (the different one) would be used.

Good idea to check the bias when installing new output tubes.

Awesome. I'm sure Bob fixed you up with fine tubes, and considered the particular amp's bias, no worry.

Maybe you could give a review on the sound of the amp with the new tubes. And posting pics of a fine US made amp are always welcome. :)

right on man,
just getting ready to toss them in
hopefully i have a chance to test them out in a jam space soon
it's hard to drive the amp living in an apartment and not having a steady jam space at the moment
if i can get a camera going, i just may post some pics for sure!

cheers

Living in an apt years ago, I learned how to jam with the amp at high volumes for at least 15 minutes. Just watch out the window while jamming, and as soon as you see the cops pulling up, turn the amp off and don't answer the door, they will go away after a few minutes. I never tried it a second time.

aha thanks for the tips
worth a try

trying it right now, kinda actually
maybe not as loud as you dared

so i'm warming up the tubes at generous volumes here

testing out the built in overdirve/distortion channel as well a tad

i think eurotubes max headroom option does what it claims
from what i can tell at these oh so generous volumes

the crunch seems much more gradual and manageable
and the built in dirty channel doesn't get overwhelming
even at max 12 volume
(funny how these amps go to 12, which beats out spinal taps 11 settings)

of course i'm not driving the volume as hard as i would in a jam session
but i think i can get louder cleans outta this thing now before the tubes break up too much
and nice subtle blues grit tones outta the overdrive channel
and just use my pedals for anything more intense

so this should do me good for now
until i can get my hands on something like a twin or super reverb
or something

this gets me wanting to explore more tubes configurations

honestly i wasn't expecting there to be that drastic of a difference

my word

whoa apparently the reissue ’65 Twin Reverb® features four 6L6 Groove Tubes® output tubes, four 12AX7 preamp tubes, two 12AT7 preamp tubes,

what's the benefit of all those tubes compared to my 2 output tubes and two preamp tubes and 1 PI tube?

hey so also, i was just doing a bit of playing here on lower volumes
sometimes the amp kind of explodes with a loud pop type of sound
it sounded like a cable issue
i'll have to narrow that down if it keeps happening
hoping it's not an amp thing
i had it looked at recently by an amp tech and he suggested getting new tubes
which i was planing on doing anyway

The TRRI uses 4 6L6GCs to develop 85 watts vs the 60 watts the Blues Deville develops with 2. The other tubes are used for the preamp, reverb, and tremolo. The Blues Deville uses an integrated circuit for the reverb driver and receiver (it doesn't have tremolo).

The pop thing does not sound good.
