If so, thoughts? Reactions (to the amp, of course)?

Does it have what folks in the Mustang forum call "hiss" or the "digital artifact?" I understand the models or 'voices' are based on the Mustang.

The 'head' and speaker enclosure are on my wish list.

Thanks in advance.

Anyone?

I was eyeing the X2 and the Marshall Class 5 -- hugely different amps, I know.

But I thought for a little extra money, the Fender SCX2 would give me A) tons more options and B) a bigger and better speaker (with the 12-in speaker enclosure).

I'm only hesitating because of the Mustang III's "rep."

Try the search feature on this site for posts about the topic that you want to learn about. Very often, posts will already exist about certain topics. Sometimes, the right wording will narrow the results. Example "SCX2" or "Super Champ X2" might give different results in a search. Here is one of the results of a search for "SCX2":

And, the first topic listed on this part of the forum is about the X2 also.

It just really depends whether you want lots of tone options, or can live with just one really sweet tone. I've only played around with the Super Champ X2 a little, it's pretty cool. I'm sure it'll give you a bit more clean headroom. I'm a big fan of the Class 5 though. The utter simplicity of it just takes you back to the basics of good guitar tones - Amp, cable, guitar volume control - that's it. I'm definitely thinking about getting one.

Thanks guys. I've seen those previous threads, but I have not seen anyone specifically address the "issue" -- maybe most people think it's a non-issue -- of "fizz" or the noise that some people complain about in the Mustang model(s).

Hopefully, someone will address that. I'm leery of simply trying it out in a store and deciding all's well definitively based on that experience. I understand the "fizz" sometimes creeps up after several days or weeks.

Just to give some feedback....

I spent about 2 hours playing the scx2 and mustang 2 and 3.

My impression is the scx2 does not have enough watts and or large enough and or high quality speaker. I was impressed with the clean mode - though no better than most fender amps and was extremely disappointed with the distorted channel 2 mode. What got me was how over driven the speaker was on any distorted channel 2 effect. To the point were the speaker was giving out if you know what I mean. For some reason the clean channel projected nicely with a clean tone but the 2nd channel did not project and the tone was horrible. I almost suspect they are not running through the tubes for the effects channel (2).

With that said my experience with the musing 3 (less money) was far better... Since it only has one channel everything runs through the effects channel and just about everything sounded better except the clean.... Which I would say is about 90% of scx2 in tone but far better in volume. Bass response over all tone during any effect etc rtc the mustang hands down won. I ended up picking up a mustang and so far happy...

Wild card --- I did not try the scx2 hd with cabinet as they did not have any. I do suspect that this combo would have blown me away.... When they come in I will try it a nd swap if I like it better.... Right now I am happy with the decision.

When I first started the amp I heard all sorts of weird $@!&...

BUT I the amp is on circuit that has some electrical noise created by my boiler (same circuit) and has also dimmer lights switches... When I change outlets to a different circut those weird fizz, etc. et.c noises go away.

I also noticed that my Burstbucker Pro (Les Paul) are very hot for this amp as I need to bring the volume down to about 7 or 8 to get the best tone out of it... this ALSO reduced the weird anomalies that I noticed.

Sooo.. the net net is... NO... (Not yet at least) Sounds amazing... I am very happy - especially since it was 50 bucks less then the SCX2 - I had a budget of 500 or less for a new DSP type amp.

BUT because of all the complaints I read about the Fizz I purchased a 2 year no questions asked swap out guarantee (Sam-ash). They will swap it out any time in 2 years and I dont have to deal with Fender. 2 years - heck at the cost of a Mustang I may upgrade anyway in 2 years....

Net net is.. dont bother with the X2 and go right for the X2 HD (Head and Cabinet) if you want to project and get the best quality of sound (I havent confirmed but can only assume as this was my biggest complaint of the smaller brother). Guess what - the X2 doesnt Fizz it Buzzes - It would have drove me Nuts!!!

PS - I have an old Fender Princeton - which is a profile on the Mustang and I was SHOCKED how it sounded exactly like the Princeton - What also shocked me was how much better the Mustang sounded - The mustang has a much cleaner fuller sound because of the larger / higher quality speaker but the tones were 100% exact - I could not believe it. This is a testament on how well these DSP based amps are.
