Just bought a used Hot Rod Deluxe from GC (it's an American-made one) and I get to pick it up on March 1st. (They put a hold on used stuff to make sure it's not stolen). The amp sounds awesome, looks like brand-new, and I was surprised it's only 40 watts...it really has a huge sound!

I was wondering if anyone ever tried to install those cool "tilt-back" legs on a Hot Rod Deluxe...you know, like the old Twin Reverb has on it?
Or would I be better off putting it on an amp stand?

New to the forum here, and just coming back to Fender after a long hiatus. I bought a very lightly used Deluxe Player Strat (sunburst with rosewood neck) in MINT condition and now this Hot Rod Deluxe amp and I am looking forward to having fun on stage with both!!!

Congrats on the amp purchase. Great cleans, very loud, you may want a pedal vs. the built in distortion.

Congrats also on realizing that by tilting your amp back, your ears will hear better than your ankles!

Fender makes tilt-back legs in 14, 16 and 19" varieties. I'm not familiar with the clearances inside your amp, but IIRC the chassis will interfere with the bolts.

Better solution and one that won't mod your amp - the Ultimate Support Genesis stand.

I bought one for use with my Princeton Reverb when I gigged with that, and ended up giving one to our other guitar player who had a HR Deluxe. Will be the same price but zero labor as the Fender tilt-back legs.

I use the Standback Amp Stands - work great!

Available online or at a Sam Ash store (although you may need to look around for them, since no one at my local one seemed to even know what they did)

Hope this helps!

If you dont mind spending alittle money look at the atlas amp stands. They are beautiful and Josh is one heck of a guy.

Just looked at the Atlas stands site - very nice woodworking.

If you have one, are they made totally of hardwood, and if so, what's to stop it from rattling with the amp, or have you not found it to be an issue. For home I have both my amps on Auralex GRAMMAs to decouple them and avoid everything in the room shaking.

thanks.

try leaning it back like it would be with tilt-back legs, and then as it would be on an amp stand. (make sure it's not leaning against the wall when you try it) The sound is quite different depending on where the amp is relative to the floor.

Thanks guys.

I actually have an amp stand. It's height adjustable and tilts the amp back. I forget who makes it, but its pretty sturdy. I use it for my Line 6 amp.

I just thought it would be cool to have the old chrome tilt-back legs on my amp like the Twin Reverb has. But I am now told it can not be done because of the way the Hot Rod Delux is built.

No big deal.

I have the tilt back legs installed on my Hot Rod Deluxe and they work great. I don't have to worry about trying to keep up with a separate stand. In fact, I have the tilt back legs installed on my Peavey Mace and they are on my Twin Reverb.

Would love to see pics Rob! Which size legs did you use and where did you get them?

I'll see what I can do regarding photos. I had the 14" Fender legs installed.

So...you had them installed? Who does work like that?
Do you know if they had to dis-assemble the amp, or is it just a matter of screws holding the legs on and the stops in place?
Would love to see the pics!
BTW...picked up the amp yeasterday...wow! (check out my other posting for details)
