Hi there,

I recently got a VisualSound Route 66 pedal, which has Overdrive and Compression features. More or less, I considered getting this to see if the tone was more to my liking than the built-in effects in the SCXD I own. I'm torn with the results. The built-in Overdrive effects in the SCXD (say voicing 3 and 11) are pretty comparable to what comes through the Route 66. I think the Route 66 sounds a little warmer, and the SCXD brighter, but these difference can be more or less altered by adjusting the tone controls on both the pedal and the SCXD.

At the end of the day, I'm wondering whether I hang on to the Route 66, as I can return it for a couple weeks still. I go to jams a couple times a month, so it's nice to have the footswitching aspect of things. Alternatively, I could just find a setting that I like on Channel 2 of the SCXD, and use the SCXD footswitch. The Compression is a nice extra as it seems to really boost the volume & sustain -- which come in handy. Certainly, if I were to get an amp such as the Blues Jr., the Route 66 would serve an obvious purpose, and perhaps down the road I'll get a "pure tube" / non-modeling amp.

Anyway, thoughts and opinions?

Ashley

Me and Jonny Lang both live and die by the tone of our Route 66 Comp Overdrive pedals.

I do believe your correct in assuming the pedal will enhance an all tube circuit far greater than any modeler will.

I put a route 66 in front of every tube amp and it brings out a warmth and depth to the notes.

I use the comp side (allways on) and seldom use the O/D unless I'm looking for a Cream era type sound.

I use my Cmatmods Signa Drive 98% of the time for quiet rich sounding O/D
