My WAG would be you've got one or more cold solder joints somewhere and the symptoms manifest themselves only when the chassis, and hence the PCB, starts to vibrate when you play the amp at the higher volumes. It could also be one of the ribbon cables not fully seated in its connector or a microphonic tube.

Thanks for your prompt reply.

The noise manifest itself only when NOT playing, so it was not an issue of vibration.

I say "was" because I turned off the amp, let the tubes cool, and then gently made sure the power tubes were seated firmly. Frankly, it didn't seem like they were loose at all, but after doing what I did, the noise seems to have gone away.............at least for the time being.

In that case, you should clean the tube sockets and tube pins with De-Oxit then re-tension all pin receptacles in each tube socket. Possibly it's a corrosion issue and/or there is intermittent contact between the tube pins and the socket because they've loosened with age.

Again, forgive my ignorance on this topic, but I don't know what you mean by "re-tension all pin receptacles". Is there a link you can provide me that discusses the process involved?

Thanks.
