I picked a new DRRI last week & tested a few over-drive pedals on it. First off, the amp clean sounds great... no problems & its the classic natural dirty breakup/distortion starting around 5-6 & up..that I love. I quickly found out that at lower volumes, some OD pedals sound like garbage! A horrible buzzing cheapo.. almost blown speaker sound. Many other people have posted the same issue & result with OD pedals, so its definitely not the weed.

I think the DRRI tubes are very sensitive to distortion & overdrive pedals. Some ODs make the amp sound like crap.. & Buzzing sound.. no matter what guitar. instead of a nice classic OD sound

In my opinion the best OD pedals for this amp are:
1. Fulltune Full-Drive 2 -absolutely the best!!!. but $150. the FD2 has a super wide clean & dirty range that sounds awesome with the amp..& no buzzing..& what a sound range diveristy!
2. Ibaneze TS9- a great classic rock/blues/ & the SRV sound..(a less bright sound) but good, because the amp is bright naturally.. about $80.
3. Boss DS-1- also great...but a sharper classic rock sound for $49.. noticeably brighter then the TS9.
4. Boss OD-1- my old petal from 1981 sounded also good...its close to the DS-1. I would of liked to have tried the OD-3 but didnt get around to it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I did not like the following petals with this amp:
1. Boss OS-2.. combo OD/distortion pedal. Horrible buzzy crap sound.
2. Fulltone OCD. A great pedal for other amps. Some claim it sounds great with the DRRI..But I thought its a little buzzy & distorted for the $..try the fulltone FD2 for almost the same $ first.
3. Boss-BD-2 Blues Driver. Way to buzzy. think about it, Its trying to replicate the beautiful bluesy classic tubes already in the amp. Sounded real crappy compared to the others i liked. TS-9 was a way better fit.. for that blues sound.

The Carl Martin plexitone is the best at $250. Well worth it as it works well wit my other amps too.
