Hi,
My 65 twin reverb just began distorting (loud static) at any volume above about a 3. Sometime a tap on the case would cure it. But it is getting increasing frequent. Anyone seen this problem before? I am an electrical engineer with test equipment so I have no qualms about tearing into this thing, but it would be nice to get some helpful hints.

Try contact cleaner on each tube's pins and appropriate socket. Just a little, is all that's needed. I use DeOxit GN5.

If this doesn't cure the issue, you may have a cold solder somewhere. Wooden chopstick test may find the problem area. As an EE, you should prolly already know about HV dangers and live amps. Pull amp out of cabinet. Have tubes inserted. Place on a stable bench. Have a speaker plugged into amp when using the chopstick. No input. Keep the free hand off the chassis.

Good luck!
