Hello Forum,.... I have noticed that, no matter where i am on voicing on my vibro champ xd, Whenever i go back to position 1, the amp goes quite a bit louder without touching either gain or volume knobs...The sound is nice and clean too..My question is,.. Is it possible that in position 1 on voicing knob bypasses the s.s. input and the signal goes directly to the preamp tube? Thanks.

No. The preamp is always SS, no way to "bypass" it. There is no setting on the VCXD to make it an all tube signal path. The input from the guitar goes into a chain of op-amp circuits (SS) and is always the same regardless of any settings.

Thanks shimmilou....From what i read off the schematic, only one triode of the 12ax7 is used. the other triode elements are tied to ground....seems a waste kinda lol. I must be having a bad year for tubes or something. Anyway, couple weeks ago, i noticed that my sound from the amp was getting crunchy and kinda weak so, i pulled the tubes and tested them. The output tube came up excellent (150 percent) where, one side of the preamp tube came up 150 percent and, the other triode came up 78 percent (on the line that weak/good meet on the meter) i had a N.O.S. rca 12ax7 in the box still and installed it in place of the original fender 12ax7 tube. Made a big diffrence especially tonewise actually made the amp sound even better than it used to. My thoughts are, i can understand power tubes going out in a short time depending on how they are treated But, usually, preamp tubes are suppose to last quite a bit longer or, they did back years ago when i was messin with tube gear. i rarely seen any preamp tubes that were bad be it a 12ax7 or 12au7 or, the others..is it just the way they are built today?
