Thanks, BMW2002Ti. If the Vibro Champ XD doesn't work out, I'll keep that in mind!

I know you already ordered a Champ XD. But, in case it's a bit too loud, you still may want to look for a good used Pignose 7-100. Check out the link. Esp the Frank Zappa YT, near the bottom.

Here's my 1970's vintage unit. I really love the tone of this thing.

Hope your Champ XD works out ok.

Fender Princeton Reissue.

Effects? OK, no tube amp then. Too bad.

Cheers

All,

Thanks for all of the replies! I decided to order a Fender Vibro Champ XD. I watched several demos and read some great reviews of the amp, and decided that it would be the best one for my needs. I suppose if it's still too loud for my apartment, then I could always get an attenuator for it.

I have one of those, they are good little amps. The one I have hums a little but other than that it has a good tone for a small practice amp. Sounds pretty good with my acoustic electrics also..

I just got a Weber Mini Mass 50 watt attenuator and it is a great tool and not to expensive. I have it hooked up to my Egnater Tweaker 15 head between a 1 x 12 Seismic Audio ext. cab with the speaker I pulled out of my BDRI. Much more dynamics and tone at low levels. They have the option of a headphone out on the Weber Mini Mass. I just got the stock one with a line out and run it into my mixer and use the head phone out if I want really silent..

I have tried a Zoom G9.2tt, Fender Mustang V, Beri V Amp 2 and the Line 6 plugins in my Propellerhead Reason 6 and they all sound like bumble bees in a jar in my headphones out in my mixer. But with the Mini Mass line out and a sm57 on the speaker at low volumes, the wow factor is real good...

15 watts and a 10" speaker? Sorry, but the Princeton is still way overpowered for an apartment. My band constantly gives me crap about my 12 watt 5E3 Deluxe being too loud.

To the OP, I lived in apartments for years and I'm sorry to say that this is the only thing that's going to be quiet enough:

Well, my Princeton 1966 has a volume knob. Princetons sound good already at low volume, and that's perfect for an apartment.
Cheers

It'll be kinda hard to OD the Princeton without the neighbors starting to clean their semi-autos. If you go this route, may want to look at an OD pedal. Like a TS-9 or 808 or some such device.

FYI: EBay ad for I believe mid-late 1970's Pignose 7-100 (Made in Gardena, CA):

+1 ... anyway, overdriving a Princeton isn't a very good idea. The distortion doesn't sound too good. Princeton is nice for cleans.

Cheers

" overdriving a Princeton isn't a very good idea "

I'm afraid I'm not very good at that. I run PR's at or near "10" a LOT. OD on these amps sound pretty good to me. Very creamy OD. Nature of the 6V6GT. My goofy opinion, only. I've been a bad boy... :D
