I love what I've heard from these tube amps on YouTube, but I mainly play late at night after the wife and kids go to bed, so headphones are a must. Does anyone know if either of these work with headphones? From what I see, they don't have a headphone jack, only an output jack. Will the speaker mute if you plug headphones into it? Should I ditch the idea of one of these, and just go for a Mustang?

Gerald Weber wrote a mod to make a kinda headphone adapter for your speaker-out plug. It requires an old speaker's VC, some wires, resistor, and a jack. Kinda lengthy to explain. You may find the recipe on the Net. If you do this type of mod/box approach you must maintain the impedance output to keep the OPT happy.

I've used a Pandora PX4 for years. Just for the reason you stated. They are pretty neat little gizmos.

Thanks all. Probably gonna go with a little Mustang I, as it seems meet my needs more than the Super Champ (even though I want the SC more).

I have been looking for a headphone amp with a cabinet simulator to run my pedalboard through, so I can practice with my pedalboard at night with headphones. So far, I have not been very lucky finding a simple box that has cabinet simulation and a decent clean sound. I reverb, delay, dirt pedals all covered on my board. You would think that someone would make just the thing. Something you could mount to your pedalboard with velcro and use it when you want to practice silently.

The key to this is a clean sound and decent cab simulation. One little amp that has a great clean sound is the Vox Pathfinder 15R. The internal speaker is muted when you plug in the headphone jack. It only makes a few tones that are decent, but the clean on it is really nice and you can get one used for well under $100. Price seems to be a factor. I could easily drop up to $500 on like a pod HD or a Zoom Multi-Effects pedal that has amp simulators built in. The one I saw at the store today was the Zoom G3 at $199.00.

We should not have to pay anywhere close to that price to use your own effects and a pair of headphones without using odd gear all rigged together like a mixer and a DI..

I use LINE OUT on my X2. It gives loud and clean output, but it is mono. You just need headphones with mono\stereo switcher or some kind of MONO->STEREO adapter (USB soundcard with monitoring feature, for example)

That works perfect!

You have to look a Roland micro cube. It has a headphone out the mutes the speaker. It has great effects and you can find a used one for around $50.

+1

The Cube is an extremely useful piece of gear for solitary practice where near-silence is mandatory.

your looking for a good amp with headphone ???

i have been looking for a long time to get a tube lamp amp that i could use headphone with...4 days ago i just bought what i was looking for ::

Fender Champ 12
this amp was built from 1987 to 1992
12w with tube lamp:: 2 12ax7a
1 6l6gl
12in speaker Special Design Speaker
1 Stereo Headphone Output
2 tape input:: cd, mp3 or computer
1 footswitch integrated in the amp
you could put a backing track from a Cd or You Tube(computer) put your headphone on
and play along.

i was looking for the best clean sound possible, because i play mostly smooth jazz and i needed headphone because i love practicing at night .....it's beyond all my expectation...

This overlooked and undervalued amp offered a lot of useful features for its time. A tragedy that today's engineers seem to ignore what worked (and sold) in the past.

Great score, overzen!

8)

This sounds like a great practice amp, considering how rare tube amps with headphone out jacks are. One thing I'd like to know is how do you use the tape inputs with your computer considering they are 1/4" jacks?

Thanks,

sleepy
