before Fender figures out that they are $200 too cheap on their new Super Champ XD amplifier. I got one from Guitar Center, and they even took off a few extra bucks, because they only had the floor model. (In my defense, there are some minor scuffs in the tolex.)

What sells this beauty is the Clean Channel for me. It rings, sings, and sustains. The owner’s manual says it’s voiced for Blackface tone. The effects are excellent too. You can adjust the intensity, but not the effect itself. Doesn’t matter to me, they’re right where I would have put them anyway. It’s possible that some day people will talk about the Super Champ’s sound as its own individual tone, and not relate it to some other Fender amp.

Disappointments: 1) It’s not made in the USA (Fender gives us choice in guitars, why not amps?), 2) there is no “mid” equalization knob, so that means 3) it always sounds a little bright, 4) some of the distorted voices sound processed (I won’t use them anyway), and 5) if you play in a band (I do not), it may not be loud enough in a medium sized room.

Ten years from now, when you’re searching EBay for one of these babys for $600, this one will not be listed. It's a keeper.

Glad you like the amp!

I'm confused about the "US choice" comment, though...we make many models in the US. Not for $299, of course, but who does?

Better US Tubes..........

No such animal and there hasn't been in a pretty long time. The only US manufactured tubes left have been sitting on shelves for at least 10 years AFAIK. Besides, the US switched most of it's tech to semiconductor devices starting in the mid-60's while the Soviet Block countries (eastern Europe) kept developing them until the Soviet Union collapsed and beyond. The best, most technologically advanced tubes still come from those countries.
