I have quite a few amps, but most are in storage/on loan to others. I've been using a DRRI as my workhorse, love the amp; modified it for more mids, both channels in phase, etc. I started playing with 2 bands, both of whom plays music that requires me to use more than just overdrives, comps, etc. I need to start using my DD-20 that's been in a closet for a year & a second delay and a few different modulations. So I need to use an amp that has an effects loop, it all gets lost inthe soup when the whole board runs in input. Plus I need just a little more headroom.

I've owned a tweaker, and a rebel 20( the rebel was a few years ago, the tweaker I traded for a Delx HR, 1the biggest gear related mistake I've made to date). I know how these amps work, I know that using the tube selector won't go from US to British, the tweaker does it better than the rebel does, I know to actually get 30 watts I have to use both sets of tubes w/selector in the middle, etc.

My question is if the COMBOs are any good?. I. Know that it has more of a Marshall tone than Fender. But I also know, at least the heads, have had problems with noise, not the typical noise. Has anyone owned one of these, for more than a year? Using one for a month or 2 isn't going to tell me if they hold up. I'm a little wishy washy about the trade. The thing that gives me solace is the knowledge that like the DRRI, if I don't end up liking it, it shouldn't be difficult to sell.

I guess my question really is; what DON'T you like about the rebel 30 combo? Tone aside. I really love my DRRI, and if it had a loop, id use it. Its built like a tank; I've had that thing apart so many times, that the fact it hasn't given me one problem (except once andv that was a, bad tube, and I forgot tob plug the vibraro cable in) amazes me. The Tweaker was equally rugged, though it was a head. But it had one issue that gives me pause on the rebel 30; the FX loop that doesn't have a line level. It made it impossible to use the amps natural tube overdrive with analog delays, which ill be using along with the Boss. I noticed it first when I was playing a solo to a song that had just one phrase that called for me to turn the delay on. As soon as I did, all the top endwouldbe gone; the load was just too much for delays using BBD. I know there's a mod on those, I know the issue existed on the Rebel 20's and Tweakers (15 watt). So; is there any other common issues?

The loop was fixed in the Rebel 20 a long time ago. At least before I bought mine over a year and a half ago. The Rebel 30 is a great amp. The only reason I didn't buy one is I like simple amps with some versatility. I didn't really need reverb. The only concern I'd have is tube rattle with the combo. That's why I went back to heads. They don't make tubes like they used to and some of my favorite NOS tubes are getting pricey. The Rebel 20 also gets that volume bump. Bruce mentioned it's close to 30 watts. It seems like the 30 is a two channel 20, but it does seem to be voiced differently. I'd go to GC and ring one out and see how you like it. The clean on the 30 is really nice too.

You mentioned modding your DRRI - have you thought about switching to a more efficient speaker? It could make your Deluxe a little clearer at that wattage. You may have already gone down that road, but may be better than ditching the amp.

I'd also suggest that since you've modded the Fender, you're not going to get a lot of resale value -- you may also kick your self a year or two down the line once it's gone. If you are looking to get another amp, I'd strongly suggest saving up for the 2nd one and keeping both.

You can then also use a Radial Bigshot ABY and play through one, the other, or both...

There's seriously nothing wrong wit the Egnater stuff, but that's a huge sonic difference between the two amps. I'd keep the DRRI and get a Rebel 30 Head.
