More than likely, a tube issue. You might try swapping a known good preamp tube in each position, one at a time, keep in mind to replace like for like, 12AT7 for 12AT7, etc.

I said I did that.... swapped both the reverb driver and reverb return tubes, no improvement.

Yeah, I saw that you said you changed those 2, there are other tubes you know. I'm thinking preamp or pi, but could even be output.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the other tubes would have any effect on the depth of the reverb, or whether it works or not...? The amps works fine and sounds great other than the sudden reverb issue....

Now this has progressed to no reverb at all..... I guess it has to go to a tech. NOT APPRECIATED, Fender!! Brand new amp, less than 2 years old, only played at home!!!!

I feel your pain. I bought mine barely a week ago and off to the service center. Mine has a nasty hiss, even with all volumes, gains an reverb turned completely down.

I have great faith, however, in the Fender warranty. It served me well in the past with other amps.

Save for the brand-new Hotrod Disgrace I foolishly bought on impulse which began to self-destruct within two years of purchase, I have never needed Fender's warranty.

Not in over forty-five years.

I was good until a couple years ago. Claims on two Frontman 212R's, one Champion 100 and now the Super-sonic 22. This is my first USA tube amp to fail.

My, now gone, Mustang IV V2 ran like a tank. My Mustang Mini, purchased used, contiues to play well.

At least I haven't had problems with the AMPLIFIER part, the amp still works and sounds great, just the reverb circuit.

I got it working again... don't know how. I suspect an intermittent / broken connection somewhere.... I just ordered a new tank and cable, because it's cheap and easy....

But I don't THINK either will solve the issue of a WEAK reverb? I know the SS22's reverb isn't like the PRRI or DRRI, it's less intense.... but lately mine has been even less intense than that.... I have to crank it to 10 to get the amount of reverb I was getting at 5..... not sure if that's a tank think or a circuit thing (inside the chassis)

ok, so i have had my SS22 since about the time they've come out (maybe 5 -6 -7 years, dunno where the years go?!)
here is what i can say to help (at least helped mine)
1. changed reverb tank myself. ordered one online and installed it. $29 or so...
2. changed ALL the preamp tubes (always tube roll anyways on all my amps) - noticed this amp being a combo, the speaker kills the preamp tubes and makes new tubes start to rattle after a few months or so. But to note, i play mine on 5-7 volume ALOT, so i expect that on just about any combo i have owned, so this doesn't really bother me.
3. SO, so far the above got my reverb where it doesnt feedback UNTIL its on like 7, and again, the amp's vol is way up. This brings me to #3 very important, while exploring with a wooden stick, i found a dry socket on one of the preamp tube sockets. Sounded like a loud thump coming OUT of the speaker when i prodded ONLY that specific terminal on that specific socket. Fixed that and now that really brought the HISS way down.
thank me later~

What is a "dry socket"- I've been playing tube amps for 30 years and have never heard of that before.... and how do you fix it? Is this just a slightly corroded socket that you hit with contact cleaner?

prodded with wooden chopstick and lineman glove, found it(loud thump coming out of speaker)
powered off , drained caps
solder gun, heat joint
solder sucker
re solder
power back up, and test
no audible thump now when tapping lightly on preamp socket terminal (can't remember what pin it was)

Sounds like a cold solder joint.

Could it be the reverb transformer? Can they be "going" bad, causing intermittent or weak symptoms?

I haven't had time to pull the chassis yet, and I won't have time for several more days...

Could the reverb transformer (if it's "going" bad) cause intermittent to weak symptoms? I know a transformer can go bad, but can one be GOING bad, as in, not bad enough to quit working yet, but bad enough to cause weak reverb and sometimes no reverb?

I ask because, before undertaking the ORDEAL of getting it serviced at the "local" Fender repair place, I'd rather fix it myself- even if it costs a little. I've already bought a new pan and cable (not here yet), a new transformer is only like $25, but before I buy one to have "at the ready" I wanted to verify whether or not a reverb transformer could give intermittent symptoms, or if they "either work, or they don't"...?
