Sorry I missed that last one.

We can't do this without him and several others who make this work and educate us lesser Amp Lovers.

What has happened with RJ is an extension of what's been going on around this board for the past year or so. I have alluded to it elsewhere on the board on a number of occasions. More and more members are beginning to post misinformation, wrong opinions (and yes, there is a such thing as a wrong opinion), argue with the truth, squabble over petty non-issues, fail to heed sound advise, etc. etc. And that doesn't even begin to take trolling and flaming into account. A good portion of the problem is that some members seem to think that because they have had their opinions for a long, long time that those opinions are fact and so they sound off when a voice of reason puts up its hand and says, "excuse me but ummm ..." What's even more stupid and useless is when others accuse that voice of reason of being a flâmêr or a troll as has already happened on this board at least a half dozen times or more.

This happens on guitar boards. The board struggles at first, gets past the initial growing stages, slowly draws some good knowlegable members and thrives for a while until the idiots eventually move in and slowly take the place over. Then what typically happens is the moderator who up until then has been reluctant to act hoping the problem will sort itself out realises things are getting desperate and suddenly feels the need to take radical action and purge the board of all the undesirables. The selection process is typically based on the opinions of those with the most seniority. Once everyone else has been purged what you are then left with is nothing more than a good old boys club where everyone thinks the same thing, says the same thing and tows the party line. Or else. Participation drops off, relevancy dies altogether and there is no new blood coming in. When this happens there will always be a certain portion of the seasoned vets who do not agree with that party line and they leave. Some leave before it gets to that stage which is what seems to have happened in RJ's case. This scenario has happened at the TDPRI (twice) and at the FDP and its begun to start up here.

Having witnessed this process take place several times I am still without any clue as to how to stop it once it gets started. I only know that it takes a strong armed approach from the moderator to enforce the rules of conduct and relevancy to keep it from starting in the first place. I suspect it may be too late for that here. They say hindsight is always 20/20. With that in mind I think maybe FMIC should have hired someone to monitor the board full time. With Brad serving other duties there's no way for him to have stayed on top of everything.

Personally, I think it's only a matter of time....

I don't know Retroverbial personally, but from what I know I don't think that he would let some goobers on this forum run him off. I personally like the fact that the moderators aren't so involved and depend on forum members for self policing. We've manged to get rid of the undesirables by using the exclamation at the bottom of posts, and/or emailing the moderator (sometimes the same individuals multiple times). I think that we enjoy much freedom on the forum, and if we all do our part, follow the rules, remind others of the rules, report spaz's, and keep it civil, we still can have a great forum. Those that complain, but do nothing about it (like reporting) aren't helping. I for one will fight to keep the forum a great place, which will include reporting those that don't get it or refuse to play nice within the rules. I think that this forum is far from a lost cause and is still a great place.

Frankly, Retroverbial just might have a little carpel-tunnel from the copious amount of posting, and maybe needs a break. Or even still, he found something better to do with his time.....like jamming/gigging. :o

I have seen this process in many online-boards. It's like tidal waves, coming and going.

Users like @Retroverbial are treasures for online boards, but they also become a target for all the riff-raff. Why should a guy like Arjay defend himself? He decided to just leave.

Cheers

David

Yikes !!!

Grab your pitch forks and torches lets hunt down what ever low life Ogre may have casued the trouble !!!

ARJAY has helped me soooooo many times, he is a great asset to Fender and he's not even on the payroll.

I have a lot of knowledge of amps as do many of you here, due to my Job I have a lot of time to treasure hunt and have had hundreds of amps that i bought and rebuilt to sell, AJay and a few others here are WAY more knowlegable than I, WAY MORE !!! and I can't tell you how many times He and others here have helped me to diagnose and fix problems.
And never asked for a thing in return !

Sure we all get grouchy at times and tired of the same old crap, I have walked away from here for a couple of weeks after being offended too.\
Better to walk away than to unload on some 13 year old know it all.
Hopefully He will come back.

Exactly.

And to blues bondsman, I have left boards in the past and by the looks of how things are going I will leave this one eventually as well. RJ was not "run off" as you put it. He was more than likely just sick and tired of the bull 5h!t. It's exactly what I was describing above. I understand your sentiment about being glad the board is freer to do and say as we please but it's a short sighted view. Chris Greene's board was doing very well. Better than most and for a much, much longer time time than most exactly because he was monitoring the board diligently with a firm grip. It was when he loosened his control and passed that control onto others that the board began its downward spiral. It's never been said out loud either there or here but I've always suspected that spiral was the very reason FMIC pulled their support and made plans to start this place.

There is a fine line between a firm grip and being a bully.

We had a Thread with over 1000 posts that was pulled because ???? CG thought it was going nowhere, really ???
Completely Fender and wasn't hurting anyone.
The guy is a jerk !

For the most part, the good guys have banded together and pushed out the turds here, hopefully this isn't the begining of the end.

One suggestion for harmony, Brad needs to add a SS only posting area, that would solve a lot of fussing.

This is supposed to be fun and educational !!!

Yes, I've heard things over there have gotten even worse since I departed. (prolly BECAUSE I departed    ) It wasn't alway so. There was a time when running a tight ship was working really well over there. I started in the really early days back when it was on the eesite and there were only about 75 or 100 people.

No, Arjay wasn't "run off" LOL. I think he was tired of all the crybaby horseshit that goes on and just left. Beemer hit the nail right on the head. I know where Arjay is and he is still alive and well and providing his vast knowledge elsewhere . This is becoming the land of misinformation and loyalty as well as excuses for poorly made products. The personal attacks because of differences of opinion are getting annoying too.
I'm getting ready to leave soon myself. I'm just getting bored with all the same stuff day after day. I left the Ibanez forum for the same reasons as well as many photography forums. Rig Talk with the Egnater forum is much better as is the Martin Guitar forum. No religion or politics permitted on Martin's site either. Very informative and lots of fun. I still feel I have a lot of experience to share as well as a lot to learn.

I just add the losers to my "Foes" list. It makes life so much simpler.

I just received a PM from Arjay regarding my 5F6A build thread.
