Hey guys, long time no see!

Wondering if anyone can hep as I am useless (and a bit scared) with amps.
I use a 65R for guitar lessons as it has 2 inputs and has served me well for a couple of years. Over the festive period it sat in a corner unused for about six weeks till a started my lessons again last week.

For some reason, there is now a background distortion as well as the clean note. This distortion never changes in volume and can still be heard even when I trn the volume down to 1 on my guitar............the clean tone of the guitar sounds good but there is just this background buzzz.....it's actually a better sounding distortion than I can get with the drive channel but that is by the by........I need to get rid of it and am stumped. When I looked a t a couple of other amp forums this problem seems to exist either in tube amps or something to do with a reversal of switches or something......... like I said amps are not one of my abilities.
This distortion is there on both channels, clean or dirty, reverb on or off, generally whatever setting I am on this sound is there in the background. COuld the speaker be knackered?

Cheers

Evan

Wow... I have the Frontman 65r and don't have a problem with it. This is a strange issue you are having. Hmmm...

Are you using a single coil Strat or Tele and standing in front of a TV or florescent lighting? I agree with the previous poster about checking your cables.

Also, you might try to dig further into the amp's volume and buzz:

Put your guitar volume down to around "3".
Crank the Frontman 65r up to around "6" or "7" and see if the buzz is still there or if it gets louder as you crank the volume.

Hello...first post...bought a 65r today...is it normal to have a lot of buzz through input 1 and 2 and for the volume to be quiet as at 1 and can't stand next to it loud at 2?

Hey KItney.

I just realised I never updated on this.....

I tried the amp the next day....and it worked fine. USed the same guitar, cables and power outlests and the distortion is now gone.........am wondering if there was something with the student's guitar....she took a different guitar to the next lesson and it worked fine so I am stumped. AT least my amp seems to be ok.......

KItney to answer your question......

The volume 'jump' between 1 and 2 on the volume is there with me too. I think it is a problem that some of the Fender amps have...........you just have to start messing with the guitar volume to get it to an acceptable level. THe thing to remember is that this is a loud amp and not really great for home/bedroom playing unless playing loud is ok with you and your neighbours. As far as the buzz goes, I don't get that with mine. You could check your guitar and your cable.

Don't see it like that..........look at it as a lesson on using your volume on your guitar!!! For me to use the amp at a decent level I have to roll the volume on my guitar back about 3 notches. It wasn't till I got this amp did I realise that the volume on the guitar has an effect on the tone..............I had always just played with the volume at 10. Made for an interesting couple of months while I figured it all out. Even saved me money as I realised I didnt need a couple of pedals when I saw the difference in using the guitar controls......

Perhaps... But you could always pick up a volume pedal and use it in reverse to lower the volume. I use the same idea, but I use a home made BYOC Confidence Boost (i.e. a build-it-yourself beginner kit, and then put into a pedal enclosure). It is like the MXR Micro Amp, but instead of a boost, I will use it to lower the overall volume to a suitable level, while the Frontman 65r is cranking right along.

I agree with the others though... The volume "spike" between "1" and "2" is a bit annoyingl But once you find the right setting, it's not too bad.
