Sounds like cab Buzz.

Every 5E3 I have had, Victoria, Kit etc has had the same problem and a guitar pick slid in between the back top panel and the chassis fixes it. (extra heavy works best).

Those pesky back panels love to vibrate and sound just like your clip.

Try it and let us know.

I agree. Break out the Phillips head screwdriver and make sure all the cabinet screws are tight. That includes the ones that mount the chassis to the cabinet. Also, make sure the speaker screws are snug, but don't over tighten them. Pull the back cover and make sure there are no wires touching the back panel. My Blues Deluxe Reissue buzzed like crazy. I went through what I suggested here and the cabinet is now dead quiet. Good luck and keep your fingers away for the caps.

I get the same effect with an extension cab. The crackly sound is coming from the speaker. I've logged about 2 hours on this amp. I would think Fender would have tested a $2K boutique amp thoroughly for cabinet buzz before it left the shop.

Which speaker? The extension cab? Have you checked for things vibrating in your room? Yes, Fender tests the amps before they are shipped, but things get loose when they are shipped.

I get the same effect from an extension cabinet (that has an identical speaker) that I get from the amp's speaker. Can cabinet buzz be transmitted as a sound through a speaker, particularly in an extension cabinet? Fender service recommended I take it to an authorized repair center. I've only had this amp two months. Two other suggestions: Tubes or maybe a dirty pot.

The mp3 was recorded with a mic directly in front of the speaker, about 6 inches away from the cloth.

Was the internal speaker still connected and active or did you unplug it?

The fundamental tone of the amp sounds fine. What you are hearing is mechanical, not electrical in nature.

Well, that could make sense because the problem shows when I roll the tone back and that increases rumble and probably could rattle something. But, this crackly buzz could be amplified through a speaker? I'll probably look at your mechanical fix suggestions first. I'm still recovering from pneumonia and can't spend a half day traveling around with an amp.
Of course, I could ignore the problem because it shows up on settings I don't visit much.

You would be surprised at how vibrations you think are coming from the amp or speaker are actually coming from something else. I was convinced that I had bad tubes or speaker. What I found was a cable bundle in the amp chassis that was vibrating against the back panel of my BDRI. Sounded like it was coming from the speaker. I tightened things and pressed on things to try and get it to stop. I had to redress the cable to pull it away from the panel and even put washers on the panel screws to space the panel away from the cable.

I had pneumonia last year. It took months before the cough and labored breathing went away. I know how you feel. :(

Well, I think I'll let Fender do the work. This is a $2000 amplifier with a couple hours logged on it. I can put Stratocasters together but I'm not in the mood to do repair on this amp beyond replacing tubes.
Pneumonia for an asthma person gets to be a tough night's sleep, I can say that for sure. I expect to be hacking for a while. I might have the energy to get this amp to a repair shop next week.
Thanks for your input. I'll post results when I have something solid to report.

Every Victoria 20112 owner knows that trick and that isn't exactly a budget line amp !

In fact fairly close in price to your Fender.

The original 5E3's had the same problem, its that resonate pine cab, it moves with the sound, thats part of the Mojo !!!!

P.S.
I had a fireplace screen drive me crazy a few years back , I swore the buzz was coming from my amp, it wasn't

Just for fun try a different room and don't forget the pick in the back cover.

It's coming from the amp. I'm sure it's an electronic problem. It's probably a tube. In any case, Fender repair will be getting it. It's still covered for tubes along with the other stuff. I'll post the results of the Dx if I can find this thread when I get the amp back.

If it were a tube, it would sound like that regardless of the tone settings on your guitar and you have sworn that it sounds great otherwise. If Fender replaces a tube and it sounds better I will be willing to bet that it is because they took the back panel off and reinstalled it, screwing it down properly.

Good point, but how does that transfer electronically through a speaker? The sound is coming from the speaker. Can sound from cabinet buzz simultaneously occupy the speaker with sound from the amp?

How many times have blues bondsman and I said that vibrations can sound like they are coming from the speaker and amp? If you don't want to believe us, fine. Fender, in their exam of the amp will probably take it apart and put it back together again. If the noise goes away, you will never know the real reason. If you want to take the amp back to Fender instead of trying the few simple suggestions we have made, that is your call. Good luck.
