Hey Supro, seems like a neat axe! Hard to beat P90's. What kind of wood did they use to build that guitar? Art

Cool, cool amps..

Who says we can't have something a bit different? Coloured tolex is hardly revolutionary..

Here's hoping they sound as good as they look (expecially the Excelsior)

The videos from NAMM of the Excelsior have me really hyped for this amp. It has some amazing tone coming out of it. The tremolo also sounds amazing. I've seen a lot of expensive boutique amps that try and nail this tone. Somehow Fender is doing it for $300?

I like what I heard from NAMM. I like the idea of a 15. If you zoom into the rear pic, you can see "made in China". LIke the Mustangs, that's how you arrive at a low price-point.
I'm happy with my MIC Mustang II, so why not? Greta looks doable too. I drive Semi away from home all week and it looks perfect for plugging into my power inverter and wail away!

bb, I just bought a Gibson Studio 60's Tribute a little while ago. It's got a slim 60's neck and some killer P-90's. Honeyburst kind of a road worn motif. It can go from sweet and delicate to serious growl with incredible sustain. It was a limited edition, but it was so popular, they painted the backs and call them dark backs and started a new run. $850, Pretty cheap for a Gibby. The P-90's have similar output to PAF pups. With the Rebel, it's a killer Blues and Classic Rock rig.

The thread seems to have some unraveled ends, but since 63supro brought it up, I picked up one of those 60's LP tributes early last year. I love the neck, and how the chambered body lends a bit more brightness and articulation.
>aclempoppi - body is chambered mahogany with maple cap, mahogany neck
Back to the Excelsior, seems fun, but I don't think I am interested in purchasing it. I do want to play it though.

Hi Art,
It's Mahogany with a Maple cap. It's also chambered. It has a real nice resonance unplugged and sustains forever when plugged in. If only Fender had single coil pickups that hot. They are all that faded road worn look. It's not over done. Funny thing is even some seasoned players ask me how old it is. I get a chuckle out of that. I have some product photography coming up. I;ll have to do a few shots. Mine's Honeyburst.

I wish they would hurry up and get the new amps out in stores already. I am practically drooling at at least trying one out and, after seeing the video with the guy using the 2 watt Greta as a preamp for his Super Sonic, I figure I should at least get one of those to put in front of my Hrdlx III with my favorite trem, chorus and delay pedals in between.

Me either, but you know how that goes. I was looking at a Martin X Series 12 string acoustic this weekend. I was pretty skeptical about a Martin not only made in Mexico, but with a HPL back and sides with a Black Richlite Board and a Stratbond neck, but I'll tell you what, for $600 it's pretty hard to beat. I tried a few others including Takamine, Breedlove and Fender and this thing both played and sounded way better than all of them. The Takamine was also $200 more.

I was originally looking for an Excelsior.

My first post!!!!

Anyways, the Excelsior Amps have a late 50's heritage apparently from Excelsior Accordion Co. Did Fender buy that company?

13 watts through a 15" speaker would be toney for sure...

Does anyone know if the Greta has a similar story? It is as cheap as some pedals that *try* to accomplish the same thing... Cheaper than the Takman XPR2 for sure, but you will have to order that from Japan... somehow?

They probably won't like me because I am migrating to solid state! That's why I picked that sig. I found one of those used Princeton 65 solid states. The 65 means watts; not the year. I also have one of those Bronco's from the same era 90's. To emulate tubes I use a Rockman distortion generator late model. The reason is reliability and great tube like sound and character (volume knob on the guitar works like it does with a tube amp, but better actually.) Both those amps also have volume knob sensitivity unlike my Cyber Champ. I think I use the solid state Princeton preset on it the same way, but every so often it leaves a weird little digital artifact in there. Got a bunch of tube amps from the 60's 70's like a Mesa Boogie, SVT, and a HIWATT 100, but they're too damn heavy and expensive. That pair of Princetons works as passable stereo rig they can't touch on a budget.

The drive preamps in the older Princeton / Bronco also have tube like sensitivity, but the computer one behaves more like a master volume. Wish I could bypass it so it is just a straight clean with zero modeling as a naked power amp for the decidedly analog Rockmans. Did you know that they are so analog, they also eventually need cap jobs? That is also why I was looking at those Vox Satriani like pedals... Appears to be the same rich-yet-tight diode distortion which even Fender apparently uses in their solid states from the 90's. You gotta admit that the Takman has a decidedly sweet analog tone.

Also forgot that I retrofitted a 10" ceramic (to fit) Jensen in that oxblood Bronco. Very simple mod that makes it a s3kr3+ weapon!

Nothing to do with "liking you" , you just get guys on here That for whatever reason went with an SS amp and make ignorant statements defending their pride and choice.

What SS amps are, more reliable, cheaper to make and Good enough for a lot of players.

What they are not, They are not a tube amp.

Don't want to get roasted on the fire, don't make crazy statements like others have here, "tube amps are dead" etc.......

Again i say Welcome aboard !!! have fun !!!
