Do you want each of us to build one, or should we all pitch in on just one as a team effort?

Yeah, Shimmy, a team effort! I'll order the knobs and handle. OK, and two corner protectors. Art

Scratching my head on this one.

The whole reason for the amp is the tube-based reverb as well as the impedance mismatch of the 2-ohm output into the 3 x10" speakers.

Why do you want a specialized head you can only use with a special cabinet you can only use with that head?

The reason the reverb is special is because it is basically the same design as Fender's stand alone 63 tube reverb unit and that it feeds the input of the Vibroking's preamp as opposed to coming between the preamp stage and phase inverter like all other Fender amps. Three 8-ohm speakers in parallel is 2.6 ohms, an insignificant difference that will make no difference in power output or tone beyond what a 4th speaker may give you. Neither on these would preclude building a head version and using it with three or four 8-ohm speakers in parallel.

Don't know, guys. But I've lusted after this amp since it's inception, was that '93 ? Played through one with a pick-up band, and thought it was great. Then lifted it to check the weight. And yeah, a head configuration might bring this old man around. So I'm still into Shimmy's team idea. I'll up my share to the chassis and a couple of tube sockets. Art

The VK is an awesome amp and yes it is freakin' heavy. A head sounds like the best idea since sliced bread to me. A rig not unlike my Rebel 20 rig would be ideal. A Head and two 1x12 cabinets or two 2x10 cabinets or a 1x12 and a 2x10. Sounds delicious to me.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Because it wheighs a ton  i spent 35+ years hauling heavy amps when the rodie couldn't handle it or i didn't have one...but sweet it is

nope it doesn't just support 2 ohm???not a super reverb. it is just a heavy beast and it sounds great with it's 3 speakers or them and it's 8ohm VK 2x12 cab or into simply one 2x12 no 10's or 1x12 red jones breathing baffle kills the head can go anywhere, i have an 11rack for light load requirements but i am freaking old now and a head would be nice since don't want to mutilate my current VK other than a cap change to be........
the reverb questions really was this

cuz i KNOW THE DAMN thing has a 63'ish reveb in it...it's just that if you look at the schematics the 6v6's are handled different...different biasing of the cathode and placement of the tranny connections etc i figure the changes help with the higher voltage the VK has for the plate circuit (tranny driver) but the question was raise (i have not checked the bias current for it yet only the reverb RI don't have the numbers near me now but the 63 tube is not getting hot (brown paper) the VK tube IS getting hot browning the paper - so i am soon going to check the bias and may with a scope and so forth and may dial in my VK a bit on the cathode bias - we'll see

but if ya want a team effort - i have black cats, blues, and some 150's but one of you can pay for merc magnetics tranny upgrades (what can they do better?...make heavier iron? oh yeah - Clapton has roadie(s) i had one - i have a nice tube loop circuit and a really nice ac coupled cathode follower PROPERLY done as it should be transparent and it's not so split load may be in store for it- not sure.....rambling it's 4:06am and noon somewhere time for a beer, a puff and bed.....

Well yuksters been awhile- moved into new digs- all helter skelter at the moment but love the island-OK

so i bought another VK yanked the chassis- had Mojo build me a Snake skin - well ...ya know my other is black as is the VK cab (that crap might change also)...anyway

let's see regarding all the impedance crapola some threw down...many well recorded pros here chilling....

the VK head plays great through a 4x12 marshall, the VK cabinet (2 12" vintage 30's at 4 ohms total- kinda kicks a few of you to the curb eh? - it sounds great through any of my red jones amp cabs (celestion gold) at 8 ohms and all the well recorded pros and i agree it just sounds good- if you want a super reverb buy one- toatal different beast- but even the VK sounds good with my 4x10 super reverb speakers...and with a 4x12 marshall+ the VK cab (2x12")...no big deal....if you want clean - get a polytone they sound great with my Byrds and L-5's -..the red jones amps are by far the best sounding amps i have and i have a ton (played mesa's pro most recently)- but i started out on my trusty BF JBL super reverb + tele an ungodly combo (from the factory as was my twin reverb - heavy? NAW my vibrosoinc silver face was a $@!&*...but that 1x15 sounded great with my sho-bud...before i dedicated myself to 'da blues...and whatever else i want...it can get really anal...

i highly recommend for cats who hate weight...do a head. now i gotta buy a VK to try the tim c mods- after i get the two sheds i NEED BAD.......Rollo out

Merle Haggard once told me- a tele and a super reverb (he uses 4x10 bassmans a lot) will empty a bar at 2:00am if ya want it emptied- he be right -gives you time for a beer after loading and hopefully a safe ride home.

BTW if you study orange drops you will find major inconstant specs if you test them with good test gear from one to the next from one to the next in construction etc...most dudes prefer ROLLED film types and sometimes i even use oil filled...and i stuffed some nice somethings into my 63 standalone verb- sounds great and my end to end Phase shift- delay (not via the reverb ...but in dry mode was way nicer...

yeah i know Dumble used orange drops- Trainwrecks used what ever the man had laying around.
