So, I was goofing around on craigslist today, and unbelievably found a listing for a Superchamp X2 head. I couldn't believe it. I just sold an amp and was going to place an order for this head today or tomorrow, and I found it about 15 miles from my home here in the seattle area.

The guy who had it got it from a guy who has a relationship with Fender. He said that he played it for a total of 15 minutes. Anyway, he sold it to me for $250, still in the box with the manual and cables etc. So basically I got it for $80 cheaper than what I would have paid for it online (with taxes) and didn't have to wait for it.

I will post a full review tomorrow, but after playing it for an hour and a half now, I am over the moon excited with it. The amps that it digitally emulates are different than the ones on the XD, but also better. I have it plugged into a 1x12 vox cab that a friend loaned me, and it sounds amazing. Even the Channel 1 Champ tone sounds much better to me through this cab than my XD sounds.

This amp has a '65 Deluxe Reverb channel that I am in love with. It also has a Supersonic Channel that is really amazing. The high gain sounds much better than the XD too. In my opinion, so far, this is a much more versatile amp than the XD.

I am having a blast with it thus far. If you are interested at all, I will post a review in a new thread under the Modern Guitar Amplifiers section in the next day or two. (whenever my fingers get too sore to play anymore.)

I'm seriously considering the SCX2 head, but I'm looking for the right footswitch to see what it does.... There are two different part numbers listed on the Spec sheet? Which is right?

Unique Features:

15 Watt tube power amp with two 6V6 tubes, 12AX7 preamp tube, Voicing knob with 16 different amp types (Tweed, Blackface, British, Metal, etc.), Two channels with channel-switching format (optional footswitch available, P/N 0073858000), 15 effects with effects adjust control, TAP tempo control for delay time/modulation rate adjustments, External speaker capability, 1/4" Line output, USB output for speaker-emulated digital recording, Software (free download) allows additional flexibility.

Accessories
Footswitch:

Optional Footswitch Available (P/N 007-1359-000)

So which is it????

i could be wrong, but aren't most feder 2 channel footswiches the same, with the difference being the markings on the switch?

for example, my stage 100 had 2 buttons- 1 for channel, and 1 for drive/more drive.

if you used the same footswitch on the x2 head, 1 button would select channel, and the other would turn effects on and off.

if anyone can confirm or deny, your input is welcome

Received my Fender newsletter and was very pleased to see the SCX2 amp. Why?
Because it was just what I needed... a perfectly sounding tube amp that is light weight,
carries a variety of effects and amp "models", is quite powerful, and comes with the "line out" bonus. So what'd I do: I went to GC for their "trade-in" event and ordered the SCX2. I have a Princeton 65 DSP amp and when I plugged the "line out" from the SCX2 into the Princeton 65 amp, the stereo effect was amazing... yes, I use the P'ton 65 as my external 12" speaker. What a sound!!! Most interesting is the "tap" feature which does what it's supposed to do... really enhance the digital effects on the delay and modulation effects... it very well approximates "analog" sounds... but... you've got to study what it does so you can learn how to use it effectively. I'm sure it will be smashingly sound-perfect when I run the "line out" into a PA sound system which will eliminate having to "mic" the amp. To me, the real advantage of the SCX2 is portability,
that is, ease of carrying and the combination of warm vintage tube sounds with digital effects...it is a true Modified-Vintage amp. Now don't get me wrong... I enjoyed the old tube amps when I could "carry" them easily... my first Fender amp was a '63 Showman followed by a '65 Deluxe reverb... I even had an original Fender echo chamber that was really fun to operate??? ...LOL !!! ... but, the SCX2 is so easy to carry and, in my opinion, delivers a lotta "punch n' power"!!! Try one!!! You'll like it!!! So will your "back"!!!from the Rickster of South Joisey...

I'm very much looking forward to the SCX2 head. I often run my SCXD through a Hot Rod Deluxe enclosure and the tone is great. Having the head will be easier to use plus the new features look great. These amps are among the best bargains out there.

I have both an SC and a Mustang III. I love the tone of the SC and it's got a sweet clean channel, but I love the versatility of the Mustang and the preset capability.

I think this new SCX2 is a step in the right direction for an affordable Fender tube amp. It sounds like it now incorporates Fender Fuse. But it would be even better if it had capability for the Mustang two or four button footswitch so you could easily change between presets be it clean, distorted, or w/ effects.

I completely agree. For me, this footswitch issue is a deal-breaker, and the only downside to an otherwise perfect little amp.

IMHO, pity Fender did not take the occasion of this new X2 to put a very nice emulated Phones Out/Line Out socket, similar to the ones on the BlackStar HT1 and HT5.

I'd love to have a Fender employee answer:

On the demos of this amp that were posted from NAMM, the Fender folks said that this Amp uses the Mustang Amp software. The big question that I have about that is:

Will I be able to use any of the amps that the Mustang III models on the SuperChamp X2? On the XD, I didn't have the Super Sonic or the 65 Deluxe Reverb. Can I put these on the X2?

Thanks

Hey Mike,

The SCX2 shares the same amp models with the Mustang but also adds a Jazzmaster model.

I was considering trading my Mustang I for a III until the X2's came out.

Just 15 minutes of playing with all of the voices, and I am more than impressed. I was not expecting the Brit and Metal models to be so good! They sound much better than the Mustang's version of these. Well, using a 1x12 cab helps quite a bit, too. I was expecting the Fender models to be good, naturally, and they are excellent. Also, the effects are quite intuitive to choose/adjust and more useful than the Mustang's.

I can't wait to dig in deeper. :D

I totally agree about the British and Metal models too. I hooked the head up to Fuse and edited the Super Sonic (channel 13), I created a bunch of fun hard rock tones with it that I am loving.

I agree. Had a look at the schematics for the older XD (the X2 isn't listed) and the line out is only digital and don't use the tubes for i signal processing. I'm not sure if the filter on the line out circuit is some kind of speaker emulator filter. Would be nice if some gear dude at Fender could tell us more about this.

Does the X2 have adjustable bias for the output tubes? Also, are the effects limited to one-on at a time? So no reverb and tremolo on at the same time? Bob
