Thats too bad, if they used solid state clipping, at least they'd, have an excuse forb why they sound so terrible on drive. They sound like a clean amp with a ds-1 in front of it

Thanks, Windwalker. And we'll see what Mr Zaite's advice is. Hope Octavia is purring right along! And yeah, I know what it's like to give up a great amp for others. I let my '95 Clubman 35 go,to get a piano for my daughter. It's all for the best! Art

She killed a mouse and "presented" it to me this morning... Next to my head on the pillow LOL. It was gross, I thought it, was the TV remote when I first woke up; o picked it up to put on the end, table, and found the remote to be furry and dead. Christ, im talking about my cat.

anyways, whats a clubster? Someone offered to trade me one for my DRRI I modified. I think it was a, Rivera. It might have been called something different; it, was during a conversation about something else and I just saidv I'd think about it. I think he mentioned it was 45 watts & that kind of soured me so I didn't really think again about it.

It's a Matchless. Two EL34s in Class A for 35 watts, a 12AX7 and 6SH7 for the pre amp. Just a single channel amp. Art

Surprising and disappointing, all in one. Worst tube overdrive ever - it's unusable. Our other guitar player had one and the feature was used once until we all started laughing at him. He got an OCD and that was his drive pedal.

Lots of people hate the HRD. Lots of people love it.

Yeah, it's really cool, how that all plays out, with different amps and different folks! I mean, that you can never tell what might suit someone's preference. IMHO, it's all good! Just Keep Picki'n ! Art

I didn't really look at the amps drive channel because I find that it sounds terrible.i happened to see 4 diodes and assumed it used a clipping circuit like the Marshall 800/900 serious, which btw, the ones from around 1987, like the silver jubilee, sounds great for a solid state distortion, while the earlier ones, and the 900's sounded horrible. Thus is the main reason you can get certain 800's, and all 900's cheap used. Id like to hear an amp that uses a clipping circuit like a Timmy, transparent. The hot rod just sounds like clipping diodes. I, think the diodes I saw were for the reverb. Fender should put out a Deluxe reverb type amp with a Zendrive as its drive channel, the way the Ibanez amp uses a built in tube screamer.

WW... I also have a Matchless amp. 15 watt Hurricane. I don't know how they did it, but it doesn't sound anything like a "typical" EL84 driven amp. Very nice brown tone with little compression until you really get loud. Really sounds more like a 6V6GT amp. I have a friend who has a 1990's vintage Chieftain. Those are crazy-@ss good amps. It's loaded with one of the last set of metal-based Amperex EL34 tube I had. Really, a beautiful chimey OD tone.

You open up one of those amps---and it's like looking at an old Hiwatt. Unbelievable attention to detail and very good components. And a heavy nearly bullet-proof chassis with hand-wound trannies. Makes for a very heavy thing to lug around, but a great, consistent tone.

Beemer, I totally agree with you on their sound. Got mine because it sounded more like an old deep Super Reverb(less the reverb), than anything I could find. Extremely dynamic and yeah, little compression until it's really cranked. Can't tell from the picture, but mine was built on rails(a real plus for the humid Midwest summers), is your Hurricane? And what about the painted solder joints and hardware? You're quite right about their attention to detail, just....matchless! My friend's Badcat is of the same quality. Art
