I have a SCXD blond combo, and also have a head/cab set-up for it. I actually like the original speaker for home use, but doesn't get loud enough with the band. My 12" cabinet is loaded with what I believe is a Fender branded Eminence Legend 1258 from a Hot Rod Deluxe, and it is loud enough for the band situation, but lacks the crisp highs and sort of breathy response I find with the original speaker. I tried my old Music Man speaker from the 70's, I think model A12 G-HD and it had slightly more articulation and response than the Legend, but still lack the clarity of the original speaker. I've read that some people like the Eminence Wizard with the amp, but listening to that "24 different Eminence Speaker demo" on YouTube, I don't really hear the nice clear highs in the Wizard.

I play a variety of styles and like the versatility of this amp. I use a strat, an acoustic electric, and a double humbucker, from clean, crisp and beautiful acoustic tones to chunky, sustainy overdrive. Not looking for a metel sound here...

So, I'm hoping to find a 12" speaker that really sounds just like the smaller original speaker, only bigger and louder... Any suggestions?

I think 12s are fundamentally different than 10s. Not sure you'll find a 12 that satisfies your tonal requirements. Maybe a high sensitivity 10 will get the volume where you want it.

Or a 2x10 maybe? If you don't have a 2x10 cab you can probably find something like an old crate g40c on ebay or craigslist for less than a hundred bucks. Pull the chassis and throw it in the river and use the 2x10 cabinet.

Correction: The crate g40c is a 2x8, but the point still stands.

Well today I had the idea to try the speaker from my Fender M80, a 12" Fender Special Design, with the SCXD and it is really very close to what I'm looking for. It lacks a little bottom end, but not much, and it has all the clarity and sparkle of the 10". And I tried the Eminence-Fender speaker with the M80 and was surprised to hear it sound like a better match for that amp ythan it"s original!

However, I just read on another forum that the M80 extension speaker outlest has a switch that apparently removes the bass and volume cut from the main speaker.... A mystery to be solved.

You might try the new Super Champ 12" cabinet that is built for the Super Champ X2 head. Not sure which speaker they have in it though. I have a Hot Rod Deluxe 1x12" cabinet that I think sounds great with an SCXD.
