I would like to know if the wedge shaped single button Fender footswitch will work correctly with a Fender Frontman 65R. The footswitch I'm talking about is this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Fender-One-Button-Channel-Footswitch/dp/B0002KZJ90

By work correctly I mean will it switch the channels and toggle the indicator light on the pedal.

Thanks,
Ken

Hi kld0068,

From the link that you provided:

"Product Description
Order a replacement or add flexibility to your amp! All fender footswitches come with 12' of cable. 1/4" Plug Compatibility: Champion 300, Champ 110, Champion 30, Blues Deluxe, M-80, Dual Showman (86), Princeton 65, Frontman 25R, FM 65R, X-25R, FM 210R"

Reading is supposed to be fundamental. Whahappin?

I was hoping for a real answer rather than a snarky response.

As you are probably aware what is advertised as "compatible" on a vendor site might not in practice actually be true. I'd like an opinion from someone either at Fender or someone that has sucessfully used that footswitch with that amp model.

Shame on you shimmilou. You should have told kld0068 to go read the Fender website right here:

This amp is a Frontman 65R, not the FM65R, completely different amp --FM65R is the newer model, possibly with different circuit. Hence the question.

Frontman 65R:
http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i- ... 0-010-LIST

So the question still stand unanswered in spite of the input from the somewhat less than helpful music forum trolls.

Is there a Fender rep/moderator that can provide a correct answer?

Thanks.

Sorry to disappoint you kld0068, but the switch you referenced and the one shown on the Fender website are the same switch and are for the FRONTMAN 65R.

OK, maybe there is something unclear in my post. To reiterate:

Frontman 65R:
http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i- ... 0-010-LIST

FM65R:
http://www.zzounds.com/item--FEN0231600000

Footswitch:
http://www.amazon.com/Fender-One-Button ... B0002KZJ90

I have the Frontman 65R, not the FM65R. The amps look similar, but that doesn't mean that they have the same circuitry. The specs on the footswitch say it's for the FM65R.

The question is: Will this footswitch also work with the older, possibly internally different, Frontman 65R?

I'm thinking that someone technical at Fender or an amp tech will be the best resource to answer this.

Read the title block of the schematic:

http://support.fender.com/schematics/gu ... ematic.pdf

No need to thank me.

BTW, the FM65R is the older of the two amps. Check the dates on the last page of each owner's manual:

http://www.americanmusical.com/ItemFile ... Manual.pdf

http://cachepe.zzounds.com/media/FM_65R ... c51e36.pdf

Neither amp is in the current Fender production line:

True...

I am also curious if a double button switch would work with that amp (for use with that weird "mid contour" button). Sort of like:
(1) Channel switch (clean/drive).
(2) Drive channel switch (normal/mid contour).

The schematic says "no".

Maybe not, but thank you.

>> Neither amp is in the current Fender production line:

That's a shame. That amp has a great clean channel that works well for pedals. 65W and that size make it a perfect grab-and-gp amp.

The only complaint I have about the amp is that Fender used cheap-o pots. Some get scratchy, the volume goes from zero to too loud at 2 --there doesn't seem to be a 1. BTW I noticed that same problem on some of the Blues Jr. amps that I've tried in the store.

-------
Re: the two button pedal - I tried the one I have from my Fender DeVille and that doesn't work. This is what prompted me to start this thread in the first place. I wanted to make certain that the wedge shaped single button would work correctly before ordering one. The amp came with a round single button that does not have an indicator LED in the pedal. That one looks cheap, hence the interest in the better looking and more practical wedge pedal.
