Hi guys, i was tryin' to understand if this kind of BLues Jr. is lacquered tweed..
this amp is an early Blues Jr., probably a green board with eminence speaker. The serial numbers for these amps begin with “LO,” indicating that they were made in the Fender/Sunn Lake Oswego factor.
My question: may this amp be a Fender Blues Junior non lacquered tweed, I mean cosmetic differences aside same amplifier as regular Tolex?
Thanks for your patience and sorry for my english.

Hi KindOfBlue,

The BJr amps themselves are all the same, only the covering and speakers are different. The amp circuit was revised just before they moved production to Mex in 2001, so all of the early US versions will sound different from the ones made from 2001 on. The US versions before 2001 are typically darker sounding, with different reverb response than the later versions (reverb circuit was main revision). There were a few cream board US versions made before the move, and these would also be the same as the earlier Mex versions from 2001 on.

Hey shimmilou, i appreciate your answer, but i already knew this info. You should know that there's a big difference between tolex and laquered tweed version: the Sound. I'm just tryin' to find if this amp is one of two versions.
Bye!

:? You asked if it was the same amp whether tweed or tolex. But you already knew? It is the same amp, and sound difference is due to the speaker. I seriously doubt if the tweed covering has much affect on the sound. No, there are not two versions of the same model BJr amp. There were versions in tweed and lacquered tweed (NOS) and black or red or green tolex, some with different speakers, but the amps are identical.

What exactly are you asking?

probably my english isn't so good, I'm sorry!
have you ever seen this video?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wG-fGrbHJhc
Well, now i'm just focus on the early Blues Jr (about 1995). I can't be able to define if that kind of early Junior has got a (good) sound like the new version "laquered tweed". I ain't so sure because i don't know if the Fender "eminence speaker" are good like the Jensen.<That's all!

OK, I think I see now. So, you are asking if a BJr from 1995 will sound similar to a new version? They would probably sound noticeably different because of the circuit changes in 2001. And with different speakers in each it would be hard to say without listening to both. If both the 1995 and new models have the same speaker, they would sound different.

The 1995 model was before the circuit revision in 2001. The amps before 2001 were darker/warmer sounding, and the later ones made after 2001 were brighter sounding. Putting a different speaker in a newer version could make it sound like an older version. But, really would have to hear each one, different circuits, different speakers, different tubes, so many variables, some of which are unknown in the older BJr.

I hope that's what you meant. :)
