Looks great Supro, if you built another you would have a nice little stereo rig.
Don't sweat it on the Illinois caps, I used them in one of my builds and the amp sounds and functions just as nice as the one I built with Spragues/F&T, I don't expect it to be any less reliable either. I reckon you're good to go the way you have it. 8)

Snowy.

Better components sound better and last better, sometimes is hard to hear. A A/B test should be made with two amps . One with Illinois ,one with Sprague or F & T .
Sprague and F & T are well know for their quality, not Illinois.
I will not say that the 63supro's amp will not sound good with Illinois.

I would think a true P-T-P amp would be harder to build than an eyelet or turret board cuz everything is hanging out in free space.

Do they make a 6V6 version?

I think it is a little harder. Everything tends to move a little when you go to solder it if you're not real careful.

They don't make a 6V6 version of this one, but they do have a 60 watt 6L6/EL34 version that looks interesting. Same deal though. True point to point.

I agree and I'd suggest Supro's amp would sound just fine. As you point out (and based on what I hear in my amps) if there was any difference with F&T/Sprague caps it could be "hard to hear". I only commented on it because in my opinion I just don't think he needs to worry about the Illinois cap(s) he mentioned is in there.

I've actually done that....I built and own two identical amps, one with Illinois and one with F&T. Neither amp I built has so far proved to be more reliable nor sound "better" (or even "different") than the other, despite the caps used, ....I guess time will tell in the reliability stakes.

Hey Supro, if you want to tackle a small and very versatile 6V6 amp, have a look at the "Trinity Tramp" kit, I've linked it below. This amp is my next build project and I'll be building it as a Head version. The Tramp can utilise 1 6V6 for a 6w amp or larger tubes such as a 6L6 can be substituted to allow for about 12w after flicking a switch.

I'm currently getting my order sorted with them and they are building a run of Head cabinets to suit the amp, one of which I've got reserved.

Anyway, check them out, I think you'd like it.

This amp building is really addictive and I know I get a bit of a high out of the satisfaction, the saving grace is I know for sure I could do much less productive things with my time/money. At the moment I have my leg in a plaster cast so I'm kind of screwed anyway, gives me more time to plan things out.

Cheers,

Snowy
