Happy new years every one!
As you know my Fender Hotrod Deluxe bit the dust (for those who havent been following my other posts. Sadly its my main amp, dont worry I have a back up. But its a Peavey Delta Blues. Though it gets the job done it lacks that Fender tone that I fell in love with.

So Sadly Money is kind of tight for me, I'm window shopping no craigslist. I need some suggestions though.
I have kind of lost faith in the HotRod Series from all the reading and personal experiences that I have been having. Lets face it that series has a lot of known issues, as do a lot of Other amp, "I know this."
Are there any "known Issues" with the Fender 65 Vintage reissue twin reverb. 85 Watts is a bit too much for me. and they go on CL for about half of what they are worth brand new. Just wondering.
And same question as above but applied to the Fender "The Twin" and "The Evil Twin" Any know issues?
I need to be more or less confident that I dont get another problem child, though I know thats hard to predict getting things second hand.

+1 on the DRRI. The TRRI is a great amp, but it's a monster! Don't worry about the DRRI's 22W, it's plenty of Fender clean and is perfect for most gigs. A more efficient speaker will give you even more clean headroom and more volume. You can pick up one on CL in great shape for 600-700. Best Buy had a brand new one over the holidays on sale for about $740!

If you're considering a bigger amp like the TRRI also check out a Silverface Super Reverb from the early 70's, you can pick one up for around $800 and it will be one of the best amps you'll own. I have a '73 and to me it is one of the best sounding Fender amps!

I lugged a 76 100 watt Twin around for over 30 years. It wasn't fun, but it was seriously reliable and sounded awesome. I agree on the DRRI. As much as I love the 5e3 Tweed Deluxe, you won't get much headroom out of it and at roughly 12 watts, it'll be a little rough to gig with without micing it. If the stage volume is a bit loud, it'll be tough to hear it unless you have decent monitor system, but hey, Neil Young uses one all the time.

+1000 DRRI

I've had mine for a little over two months now and absolutely love it. Its got an awesome overdriven tone with a few pedals and the clean...well the clean tone is just to die for. For the style of music I play (blues, jazz, classic rock, country) the DRRI fits perfectly. After gigging it a few times as well as playing at home and band practice, I don't think there's a better amp out there for my needs.

If you can handle the 85 watts of power in the TRRI (and the heft) it is pretty good sounding amp. It's a fairly clean amp so you'd have to get your grind from pedals. I'm no amp tech but I think part of the reason it's that clean is due to the solid state rectifier which I assume will be pretty stiff. Any time I've tried one it seemed cleaner than the old TR's I've tried in the past. The other amp guys around here can give you better information on this next bit but I think it's also possible to run the amp safely on only 2 of the 4 6L6's which would bring the power output down closer to what you're used to.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Or you might want to consider the Super Reverb RI. Power output is a bit more than the HRD if that's what you need. I have the DRRI. 22watts seems pretty loud. None of the reissues have fx loops. Something to think about if you use lots of effects. Besides that, they seem like a good solid series of amps. I like all the inputs. :)

I posted last night and then deleted about one of these after I re-read his post! I have the Supersonic 60 combo AND a new Supersonic Twin Combo, both in blonde. I'm a BIG fan of the series BUT I re-read his post and it seems the money is tight right now.
