I bought a new Hot Rod Deluxe about 7 months ago. A while ago, it had an issue with turning it on where it simply would not turn on. No light, no sound, but the Drive/More Drive lights worked. I took it in to the dealership and they fixed that with a new tube heater. Now I've been playing it, and it works fine for about 15 minutes. Around that time, it suddenly cuts out to about one tenth of the volume level and sounds gritty on a clean setting. I took it in once to the dealership, and they sent it back saying they had found nothing wrong with it. I've replaced cables, tested pedals, power sources. I have no idea what's wrong. Maybe someone on here has an idea?

Hi Cowboys91,

This should still be covered under warranty. Quite possibly the dealer missed some poor solder joints. The joints around the tube sockets and screen grid resistors would be my first guess. Next place to look would be the tube sockets themselves.

I had almost the same issue with mine when I got one used. At High volumes it would cut off almost like it had a kill safety. I took it to a guy who said that the HRD was notorious for cold solder joints. He reinforced all the joints and it worked fine after that. I have issues with it again but they are not related.

May sound dumb on my part - but when the same has happened to me I discovered one of the cable plugs in my chain into the amp was intermittent. Another time it happened, found one of my plugs had become oxidized....

if it only happens after about 15 mins id suggest checking for dry joints as it takes about 15 mins for the amp to get to normal operating temperature when playing... as said above, chech the tube sockets first, but be careful when prodding around in a valve amp... the voltages are high enough to kill you or cause srs injury even when the amp is off, if you have some experience with valve amps then go for it, but if you dont... be carefull...
