i have a blues deluxe reissue. I always have the bright switch on, it seems muddy without it on. Just wondering if I'm missing something or are you getting good tones without the bright switch on?

When doing lead stuff I leave the Bright switch on, except on certain guitars (like my old Telecaster). This includes a Super Reverb, Twin Reverb, and a Bandmaster. Sure helps cut through bass and drum "mud." I twirl guitar knobs and switch pups to change tone.

But that's just me. I'm sure there are others here that do just the opposite.

I have never had a problem with my BDRI sounding muddy. The effect of the bright switch varies with the volume control setting. The louder the volume is set the less effect the bright switch has. Have you tried adjusting your tone and presence controls?

I use the bright switch depending on the gigging situation. If I am playing outside or in a large venue, I will typically leave the bright switch off and increase the treble and push the amp harder. I do find, however, that when I'm playing a smaller place, rehearsing, or just jamming at home with lower volumes, I usually do flip the bright switch on to help cut through the mix more.

It depends on which guitar I'm using.
LP = Bright - On
Tele = Bright -Off
Strat = six of one, half a dozen of the other.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

i never use the bright switch on... with the amount of control you have with trebble and presence ive never needed the extra trebble... and for live giging i need more bass and less trebble... and the bright switch beeing off gives exactly that

Depending of the guitar and the room where I play. When there are a lot of natural reverberation I prefer bright OFF. But it's a question of feeling.
