I have a fender devile 212 and its a pretty decent amp, but recently when ever i turn on the gain i get a high pitched screeching sound, when i put even more gain on it gets worse. The only way to suppress the sound is to turn down the presence, reverb, volume, gain, and treble a bit, but i can't very loud at all. I discovered that it has nothing to do with feedback or the cables and i can get as loud as i want with the cleans, but i cant use the gain without getting that sound. does anybody have any idea what might be causing this and how i could fix it.

here's a video of the amp making the noise

thanks.

Try replacing the tube in V2 which is used in the Drive and More Drive settings.

I agree with Bluesky, it sounds like a microphonic tube. If you still have issues with another 12AX7, try a 5751. Either Philips ECG mil spec or Sovtek 5751.

BTW... if you play the guitar through the amp when it's npt making the high pitched noise--do you notice an odd tone riding above the note? This could indicate other issues.

Good luck with the tube.

It does sound like V2 is the culprit.

You can grasp the tube to see if the noise stops or is dampened, it will be hot but you can grasp it for a second or two to check. Although you should replace the tube, do you have the foam damper on the V1 and V2 tubes?
