After 6 years, one of the JJ 6L6GC's took a dump and took out the screen resistor with it. Replaced both screen resistors and tubes and all is well. New tubes are on order from Eurotubes as the ones I installed don't bias up as I would like them to.

Six years' service for a contemporary tube is still pretty good, bluesky. Losing the screen-grid resistor was a bit of a setback but thankfully the amp is in great hands and will no doubt be back on line shortly.

Bill, glad to see you checking in here and giving an update. Glad to know you're still at it! Let us know when you get the amp up and running!

Full set of new JJ tubes installed (except V1 which is a NOS 12AY7). Power tubes biased at 48 mA plate current/431 VDC plate voltage. Power tubes are within 2 mA and 1 VDC of each other. Amp is very quiet and sounds like the day I built it. Maybe even better. Might re-tube the Wrecking Ball just for the heck of it.

Good to hear Bill! I've had some fun swapping preamp tubes a couple times in my Princeton and think the set it now has is the best its ever sounded! You seem to enjoy the challenge of tweaking your amps for just that perfect tone...seems you got a bit of old Leo in ya!

Thought I'd try the JJ 5881 power tubes (23 watt max dissipation) in place of the JJ 6L6GC tubes (30 watts max dissipation). Glad I did. The amp is just as loud with the 5881s as it is with the 6L6GCs, but the 5881s break up a little earlier and the overdrive is smoother and thicker then the 6L6GCs. Also the bass is not quite as strong which in my case is good since the amp sits on the floor. I think the JJ5881s are keepers and recommend them to anyone with any of the Fender Bassman Reissues as they will handle the higher B+ voltages that the Reissues have compared to the originals.

Bias settings are 36mA cathode/34mA plate at 434 VDC plate voltage for a bias setting of 64% max plate dissipation.

Also added a 100pf bright cap to the normal channel so both channels are "bright". Since I use both channels simultaneously (with a "Y" jumper) I find they blend better, especially with humbuckers. Strat single coils are nice and sparkley but not harsh.
