Hey, I'm considering upgrading from the hotrod deluxe to a deville but I'm not sure if I should go for the 2'12 or 4'10. If someone could explain please the difference between the two that would be greatly apprecieated. Thank you.

212 is 2 12 inch speakers
410 is 4 10 inch speakers

Best thing to do is go try out each and see which one is right for your needs.

if your looking for all the clean sparkle you can get, try the 4x10

I am completely biased in this, I own a Blues Deville 4x10 and I won't part with it.

I have owned a twin with 2x12 and several other 2x12 amps and from my experience I have found the 4x10 configuration to have a better range of tone.

like the others have said, do yourself a huge favor and go plug in and see for yourself.

I would go with the 4'10 they keep the lows and leave the upper registers singing. 2'12 nice bass but just mucky up top. Plus the 4'10 is just so pretty.

Four 10-inch speakers have more surface area and therefore move more air than 2-12inch speakers.

3.14*5^2*4 = 314 in^2

versus

3.14*6^2*2 = 226 in^2

Portability is also a factor, as a 4x10 will be heavier for what it's worth.

While you are considering the 4x10 Deville. you may want to A/B that next to the 4x10 Bassman LTD. That is what I did, and ended up with the Bassman, and I am VERY glad I did.

I actually did the same thing, but went with the DeVille instead, because of the extras (I just have to have reverb), plus the price had a little to do with it. I didn't have quite enough for the Bassman. To think back on it I still wouldn't have done it differently. I'm satisfied with the DeVille.

Yes, the reverb and price were a consideration, along with the effects loop and overdrive channel. The Bassman has none of these built in. But as I A/Bd them over and over again, there was a tone in the Bassman that kept calling out my name. And I am glad I went with it. But I would be the first to acknowledge the Deville is also a very fine amp. And both having the 4x10 put them in a league all their own over the 2x12 options (though I should note, I just played through a Fender Twin Reverb - 2x12 - the other day, and it was exceptionally nice).

my personal opinion....

I think the 410's have a warmer tone and can be loud too.
The 212's have a loud punchier sound. not as warm but still sound good.
It's all personal preference, get out to your local store and just play on both and see which amp has the sound your looking to get.
