Hi guys,

Im searching for a fender all tube combo amp. I need not more then a 30watts. I would be glad if it would be vintage style and in it reverb and drive. I found this one http://www.thomann.de/gb/fender_deluxe_ ... 411cf3076a , but one guy told me, that i will need to change speaker (because its bad) and the drive channel isnt so good either. And it is made in mexico- i dont know is it bad or not.

Hi Browny,

Your link is incomplete. Is this the one, a Deluxe Vintage Modified?

The Deluxe Vintage Modified is not an all tube amp. It is a hybrid amp with a solid state preamp and effects and tube phase inverter and power output stage. If you want an all tube amp around 20 watts, buy the 65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue:

That's the beauty of all-tube amps. The OD is part of how tubes work. They compress, OD, have headroom, etc just by the nature of their design. The guy, in the clip, was altering his guitar vol/tone too. If you really had hot pups, like my LPS and cranked that DRRI to past "7"---you'd get the crunchiest Metallica tone, with no pedals. It's the magic of those tubes.

If you want that tone at sane volumes---OD pedals and others maybe in order.

BTW... tube amps will give you a vibrato/tremolo & reverb tank tone that NO pedal ... will ever give you. And their sensitivity to knob twisting is much better (IMHO) than any digital EFX. But, they take to pedals well, too.

I have heard that with these fender amps its very hard to get crunchy sound even with distortation/overdrive pedals? How much of that is true?

It just sort of depends on the amp... some amps have a lot more "headroom" where basically it will break up only at louder volumes.

Typically (but not always, depends on the amps) amps with lower wattage's will break up sooner then higher wattage amps.

But tube amps can be pushed to give you an overdriven sound. Its a beautiful thing, and you might want to look at amps with different kinds of tubes in them too.

That '65 Deluxe Reverb Reissure is a killer amp fender offers too...

Hi Browny, +1 on all the above. According to your OP you want a less than 30w all tube. That's 2 strikes againt the VM. There's tons of smaller all tube amps out there. As far as crunch, my DRRI gives me plenty of crunch @ higher than 4 on volume, just not high gain Metal type. More of a Blues/classic R&R crunch. Plus you can always get more w/a pedal. So it depends on the type of crunch you're searching for. For us old timers, the classic crunch suits us fine. Good luck
