I have a Fender Pro 185 solid state amp with 2x12 speakers which was sounding pretty good then it started acting up. When I'm plugged in the volume fades in then fades out like the amp is about to shut down. The guy at the repair shop changed all the plug in sockets but still can't seem to find the problem. When it comes on it may have a clean sound or a farty sound then quickly goes out! Can anyone help me??

Your are better to look for a real tech, the guy at the repair shop is not a professional tech : change plug and socket , a real joke., He stole your money

How can we help you here ? You know electronics ? Probably not. Find a good tech .

My 2¢ worth. "Farty" sounds is an indication that one of the couling caps (usually the ones hanging off the phase inverter) are getting leaky or one of the gain stages is passing too much swing voltage (improper setup or again leaky cap(s).

You need a tech with a scope and a signal generator--- and knows how to use it. To narrow down the section which is bad. Or you'll be changing parts forever, until you hit the culprit.

Good luck. Fading in-&-out can be a bad symptom. Take heed, your amp is giving you a fair warning---prior to failure. Where do you live? Maybe, someone here can recommend a "real" experienced amp tech.
