They are sweet amps... I would have loved to have the one I saw in the shop... they were just asking way too much for it...

That... and I would ave no clue how I would have gotten it into my car...

With a dolly or pallet jack and a big friend  They are pretty cool amps and get a bum rap by alot of amp gurus.Knock on wood but my amp sings loud cleans just like any other twin amp and still has just enough oomph on the extra gain channel.I don't play with a bunch of gain so it is perfect for my needs and mine takes pedals just fine ,but honestly I never use any.The amp alone is enough. :D

Well, my amp arrived in pieces. The pinhead who packed it shipped it in a box rated for 50 lb. The amp weighs 80 lb. One of the impacts was so great that it dislodged the magnet off the back of one of the speakers. The seams were split when it was smashed upside down and broke off the inner corner support dislodging a few of the tubes. Such a pity to have a beautiful piece of equipment destroyed. I'm bummed out!! :(

Bummer! Did you buy it on ebay? If so send a message to the seller telling them about it, ask them to refund your money and take it back. If they refuse file a complaint with ebay and give them a negative rating. Save everything, especially the packing, and take a lot of pictures. If they seller bought insurance, they can try to file a claim with UPS or whoever they shipped it with. They'll need photos.

Wow!! That is no bueno.I would be pretty upset if that happened to me.The bonehead that shipped it should have packed it right.Did it show up in a box that at least said this side up only! I would definitely ask for a refund. The amp looked like it may have been in descent condition prior to damage.Boy does that blow.

I've been trying to sell mine on craigslist (bought a blues deluxe reissue that is more to my liking) and I am getting so much flack from people who think they know it all and think the red knob amp sucks. They are even flagging my ad because of it - really pisses me off! Stupid "wannabes" who have obviously never even tried one, they have just read other bad reviews probably by a lot of other people who haven't tried them either. I used my red knob for a few years before switching - they are pretty darn good amps, and versatile.

I went to the site, but it doesn't seem to fit my amp. My serial number is LO-142406, but the site says 1989 serial numbers start with "F9", and 1990 starts with A, 1991 with B, etc. It doesn't get to "L" until 2001, but I'd owned the amp for about 10 years in 2001. So... ???

Sorry gave you a bad link...the old memory ain't what it used to be. Your amp was built in Lake Oswego Oregon, hence the serial number starting with LO. Could not find any dating tips on these, beyond they were made between 87 & 94. Maybe someone else has a way to date them? I will keep researching and see what I find (lots of books to go through).
A little more history....In late 1985 Fender bought Sunn. A big name in the late 60's and early 70's for guitar and bass amps but at that time known mainly for P.A.'s. After moving the Sunn factory from Tualatin, Oregon to nearby Lake Oswego they used it to start making new Fender amplifiers as well as still making Sunn equipment.

FWIW

It might be difficult or impossible to date any amp by the serial number on the back of the amp. The other numbers referred to on that and other sites, like the two-letter "Date Code", or the EIA numbers on the transformers are much better for dating.

I think that you are looking at several dating methods and numbers, some of which have nothing to do with the serial number on a sticker on the amp. The "LO" part of the serial number being a location code that was used for several years for many models of amps, so it doesn't indicate a particular year at all.

The two-letter date codes such as "BH" referred to on that site are on a "Quality Assurance" (QA) inspection sticker or on the tube chart and are specifically for dating, not part of the serial number.

Look for a sticker that looks like this inside the cab and find the two-letter code on it. This one has "HJ", H being 1997 and J being October.

Thanks Shim, never thought to tell him to look for those stickers inside, which made me think he might try FMIC at... consumerrelations@fender.com Tell the what you got, serial number, or any other information you can find on the amp itself as Shim suggested and see what Fender might be able to tell you.

Just a thought.

Thanks for the help with the dating! The QA sticker says "AG". So I assume that makes it a 1990, right? That makes sense, because I bought it off a guy in 1991, and I don't think he had it very long.

Yep, A - 1990, and G - July

As far as the guy with the broken in shipping amp, The guys in the big brown trucks can destroy them if you pack them in a vault filled with pillows.

You could ask for a partial refund say 50% and fix it your self, nothing there that cant be easily put back in working order, trust me I have been on both sides of the shipping nightmare.

But you'll get your money back as long as you paid using pay-pal

So a happy update for all. The Twin red knob that was destroyed in shipping was purchased on ebay and paid for with Paypal. The seller seems a bit evasive so I opened a dispute with Paypal although they seem to be avoiding that also for the time being.

I was perusing the local craigslist and a mint " The Twin" red knob was available and I paid less for it than the one destroyed. I have a little rattle in the reverb tank but other than that this thing is a MONSTER!!!
Here's some pic's of the amp with it's new friends! :-)

Hello Tsonic, glad your story had a happy ending. I can only imagine how depressed you must have been when you received the first one all smashed up. I didn't realize ebay/paypal would reimburse you until I saw the other person's post on this thread. That gives me more confidence in buying stuff on ebay. Just out of curiousity, if you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for the one on Craigslist? Enjoy and rock on!

haha I love a good ending. I cringed earlier when I saw the photos of your former twin. 8) Your new twin is a B-E-A-Utiful amp...
