I have a carcas of a Deluxe Hot Rod, that particular one Im going to use to build a point to point. This week was spent modifying a DRRI, putting the two channels in phase, and allowing the Normal Channel to use reverb and tremolo. I also lowered the headroom changing the coupling cap for the PI. I was wondering if anyone has put the Special Design Speaker (Eminence Legend 125 50Watt rated) speaker fromthe Deluxe Hot Rods into a Deluxe reverb RI? I know the C12 in the DRRI is rated at 100 watts, so its more efficiant, and gives more headroom, and at some point I may want that, but for now i dont. I figured w/the lower power rating, it'll breakup sooner. I'm going to do it anyway, but i thought id find out if someone has done it yet and what they though all around.

The Legend speaker in my HRDlx was a piece of farty sounding garbage when you pushed it. There's a lot better speakers you could put in a DRRI.

Well, no doubt there are better, but I have one here, and I tendto just try stuff. I can't tell you how many great sounding thigs I've discovered ignoring conventional wisdom. For christ sakes my girlfriend brought over a couple $10 danelectro mini pedals, the look I gave must be similiar to santa claus showing uo at a synagog or mosque. But except for the fact that they'd probably crack in half after 1 gig, they sounded good. Anyways; the speaker you mentioned, I also noticed the "tone" you describe, but that was in a Deluxe Hot Rod, I didn't know whether it would sound better or different in the DRRI. The C12s take like a decade to break in w/all the dope and reinforcement they use in it, but that's easily remedied; 000, then 0000 steel wool. I rube the cone lightly, like designers do with jeans. I won't try to lie andd act like I thought it up,it came to me after watching the King of the Hill episode when bobby took home-ec and did ot to his fathers jeans.
I think Hot Rods would sound that way with any speaker, especially if you use the drive channels. But I have this DRRI done now in a way that; I changed the phasing so both speakers are in phase, reverb/trem work in Normal channel, I swapped the coupling capasitor for the phase inverter so breakup starts at 4 or 5 instead of 7-8, abd; I just replaced the 6m8; cap that fixes the midrange frequency in its permanent position. I put a 10; trimpot, so it can go from current mid scoop, to the silverfaces 8K, to the actual original 10K. So I can adjust the mids. Having a speaker rated @100watts isn't inducive to speaker breakup on a 22 watt amp, I figured id try a 50 watt. Ill proably go with an Eminence Patriot. I've used the Red Coat Private Jacks that have the cone tuned for british tone, but I want to keep it american on this amp.

If you did use it in another amp, which one? It may help me decide. I could just put it in and see, but I've been repairing, building and modifying amps and pedals for the last 2 weeks, and went full bore the last 2 days, today, I just want to play.
Sorry in advance for typos, my laptop broke and in typing on a cellphone keyboard, WAY TOO MUCH work to go back and proofread.
