I have a 1year old Fender Blues Deluxe RI, that just died on me. The problem is that the volume faded as i was playing and now i can only get a very distorted sound when i turn the volume knob to max, the volume in it self is not loud though. The tubes and fuses are all ok as i tested new ones. I'm in the dark here, anyone had similar problems? :?: :?: :?:

There is a 5 years warranty to support that, contact your 7ender dealer. Probably a solder joint.

I didn't have a BLDlx but a HRDlx. When mine did that there were fractured solder joints on the power tube sockets. Have a tech give it the once over. Did you substitute all the tubes one at a time including the preamp tubes to be sure?

If you are the original owner, definitely take it back under warranty.

God, Ive dealt with 3 separate Deluxe Hot Rods, I take back what i said about them being good. While they sound good, if you transport it more than a foot a year somethign will break.
It's going to be either; Screen Filter resistors

something on the phase inverter, tube or component. Honestly, 3 out of 5 of these must malfunction for the owner at some point, there's no way I come across 3 in a row that work, then within a couple weeks (one in the period of 36 hours) they break.

The most common issue is the resistor for the phase inverter, R57 R58. One is 100K the other 82K, it usually the 82K. Test pin 1 & 6 on V3. If one doest read anything, you've nailed the issue. Test the voltage on both sides of R57 & R58. Good ones will have one side of the resistor having higher voltage than the other, bad ones will have one side with high voltage, and none on the other side.

Ive found the screen resistors go all the time in them as well, best thing to cut this off at the pass and keep it from happening is to change the 470ohm 2W Carbon resistor with a 5W one with a higher ohm value, ive used 680, but know other people who used 1K.

Also, when/if you install them, put a little gap between the resistors and the board. They get really hot, and they'll scorch the board if they sit right on it. If you can, apply a little silicone between the resistors and the board.

yep the resistors seem to be a common problem, ive personaly had no probs with my deluxe, ive run it for 2 years doing regular gigs and it was a floor model before that and i believe it was used for a few years before that at live gigs that the shop sponsored...

so it looks like i got one of the rare tough BDRI's :D

Folks,

Please note that the OP has a Blues Deluxe Reissue and NOT a Hot Rod Deluxe. The BDRIs include a number of improvements over the original Blues and Hot Rod Deluxes. Some of those improvements have found their way into the later Hot Rod Deluxe amps.

To the OP:

Let me reiterate. If the amp is new and you are the original owner (or used and you have the original sales receipt), the amp is under a 5 year factory warranty. Making the repairs yourself will void that warranty. If you are not familiar with working on tube amps, following anyone's advice on how to fix it yourself, whether the advice is correct or not, you risk doing further damage to the amp or possibly injuring or even killing yourself. Do yourself a favor: If your idea of working on a tube amp is replacing the tubes and fuse, take it to a professional.

I modded my HRDlx. I turned it into an Egnater Rebel 20. Fixed it for good.
