I was in an "old" type music store in the city this weekend. You know the ones with stuff piled in corners and such. Well I'd been looking for a used Fender Blues deluxe so I asked if they had any. Nope not a one. But I got to prowl around and found a Deluxe Reverb Reissue and ask him about it. He said it was broken, wouldn't make a sound or even come on. They had bought out a music store going out of business and the was one of the things that got. We messed around with it and plugged it in. Some of the tubes didn't light up and in a second or two it blowed the fuse in the amp. We stuck another fuse from another amp in it and now it wouldn't even light up. He said he'd take $200. It looked like new except missing the handle and of course didn't work. He said even if I put $200 more in it, I'd have a DRRI for $400, well below what a used one brings. He said they would probably just part it out. I told him I'd think about it and left.

Went out to the car and called the guy that works on amp at the music store where I hangout. Told him the story. He said "Buy it and run" probably just a shorted out transformer or something fixed for $100 or so even if it needed some new tubes. He said even if it was for parts I could get my $200 back. So back in I go and buy it.

Back to my regular store, and in I walked in with it. I figured I have to leave it, but he picked it up and threw it on the bench. Checked the fuse we put in at the other store, it was bad, new fuse installed. Pulled the output tubes and fired it up. No red light, no light bulb replaced the light bulb. All was good the fuse didn't blow the light was working. Test the output tubes, one was shot. So put a new set of 6V6's in her. Plugged the radio in for a test and WOW was she loud!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D

Total $200.00 for the amp. New fuse, bulb, and two power tube's $42.00. Total $242.00 for a deluxe reverb reissue

I am one happy dude!!! All I need now is a handle and the footswitch about $60 more. So for $300 bucks I have me a great amp.

My wife is even kind of excited for me.

WOW! I'm jealous!

Glad I'm not the only weirdo who gets excited at the thought of someone selling a "broken" item, hoping to get an amazing deal like this.

Thanks ya'll. I really excited about my find. I need some good luck right now anyway.

Guess now it the rest of the story. This happened on Saturday but Friday night I was browsing Craigslist and saw an ad for a Blues Deluxe just like I was looking for in the first place. I called and the lady said it had just walked out the door 5 minutes before I called. She lived about 30 miles from me. I talked to her for a few minutes and found out that this was her Dad's amp and had only been played about 10 times or since it was new. His music room was 8 ft by 8 ft and this amp was too loud for him. She had the receipt where he had bought it in 1996!!!!! Yep that was an orginal Blues Deluxe not a reissue.

Ah but if I had bought that amp I might not have even found this one. Oh yea did I mention the lady in the next town sold the blues deluxe for $300. Guess you win some and loose some. But I'm still a happy camper.

FWIW, there's absolutely no doubt in my mind that you ended up with the better deal.

+1 and the Blues Deluxe is probably getting ready for a cap job. Not using an amp isn't really good for it.

Arjay and 63Supro I think I'd agree. I'm a newbie to electrics and have a blues jr that I like but always felt like I wanted something .... well more. I had played the blues deluxe at GC in the city and really liked the sound but figured 40 watts was more than I need to just play around the house. I only play clean to the edge of breakup for what I like to pick. Never figured I could afford a DRRI new or used and never played one either.

All I can say is God was smiling on me this weekend - it just worked out!!!!!

Thanks guys!

Tony H.

Amen Shotgunone !!!

The DRRI has a much fuller sound by far, the only amps I have owned that surpass it's (not in a box) sound are the few 4x10's and my last Twin Reverb RI and the DRRI holds its own even among them.

You were blessed indeed !
