You guys gave me some great advice on amp selection a few weeks ago and I pretty much made up my mind on a 65 DRRI until I ran across the Mustang III. The DRRI cost $1000 and the Mustang is $300. The online reviews, if you can believe them, say the Mustang can be made to sounds very much like the old vingage amps (65 Deluxe Reverb and 57 Bassman). If this is true, I can't see why the Mustang III wouldn't be a smarter buy. I trust you guy's opinion much more that those on other websites. Can you give me your opinions? I play only small gigs a few times a week. I use only clean channels, play old rock 50s-70s, blues, and jazz. I Like the mellow, smooth tones I get from my 65 Bassman but it's getting to heavy to tote around.

You would have to try them side by side. I've never heard a modeling amp that comes even close to the amps they say they emulate. That's just me. You may find it's not worth the six or seven hundred dollar difference. Those who say it comes close more than likely never played a DRRI.

I agree, built-in emulation amps, more SS in the signal path, can't quite get the same tones as an all tube amp. IMO, the best emulations come from using an effect such as a POD, into an all tube amp, and even then it's close, not exactly the same. I find that the combination of a good clean tube amp with a POD on the input or in the loop to be the most versatile, and very good for emulations of many popular amps. Some of the newer modeling amps have some good sounds of their own, so try 'em, and if you likey, you buy. You no likey, you no buy.

My advice: go to your local shop and play all the amps you're interested in (and even some you're not). Give 'em a good long while and see what you like the sound and price of. Then, cut a deal with the shop, take your new amp home and play and play and play.

There is some great sound in the Mustang series. Does it match the original amps? Who cares? The people in the audience don't.

Happy amp shopping!

That's it exactly. Only the player should care. The original question was will the model sound like the original? Nope, but as long as you're good with the way it sounds, maybe you should save the money.

Thanks guys for thed good advice. I think I'll hold off buying a Mustang due to the "FIZZ" issue untill Fender can fix this (saw this on other post). However, I will take your advice and load up my guitar for a trip to the local music store, play a few amps and make a choice. I think the DRRI is still a top pick but others like the 212R may also be agood choice. Thanks for the advice.
