I don't know who sells them on your side of the ocean, Ed, but I'm sure they're available... just Google 'em and they'll show up someplace.

I know you'll love them. I've got a virtually-unused RCA pull from the 60's in my modified tweed Princeton, but when it goes, it's getting replaced with a Winged C.

Ed - Yep, that's them, with the WInged C logo on the tube.... but I think that cryo-treating stuff is bunk. I mean... what's gonna happen to all that frozen wonderfulness the first time you heat it up? :D

SInce we got out of synch, here, I'll repeat to make sure you see it:

Ed - Yep, that's them, with the Winged C logo on the tube.... but I think that cryo-treating stuff is probably bunkum. I mean... what's gonna happen to all that frozen wonderfulness the first time you heat it up? :D

No, worries, we were posting at the same time.

Bunkum = BS. I think cryogenically treating electronic parts is a load of hooey in general, and is complete hosrefeathers when you're talking about tubes. I have this on the authority of an actual cryogenic scientist (not a guy selling guitar amp parts), who has assured me that NOBODY is getting vacuum tubes cold enough to change their metallic structure, because the glass and the seals would not survive the process.

Oh right that's awesome - would it be safe to get them from this seller though? I mean, if it makes no difference in the long run then I'll buy them, but not if it's going to make them sound crappy! Thanks!

No, it won't make them sound bad. Whatever they think they're doing, it isn't cryogenics, and it doesn't affect the tube at all.

As long as they're not overcharging you for the process!

IMHO Groove tubes sound like garbage. Try JJ's, TAD, Mullard etc. I use JJ's from Eurotubes Blues Option #1. There's a lot better tubes out there. Be wary of Justin's site. If you are not familar with tube amps, take it to a tech. There are LETHAL VOLTAGES in there. You need to check the bias any time you change the power tubes on these amps. They are the 6l6's. Eurotubes has videos on their site on how to bias, but like I said, it's dangerous to be messing around 4-500 volts comming from the capacitors If you don't know what a capacitor is, or how to discharge the voltage, take it to a tech. Voltage is stored even with the amp turned off and unplugged for even more than a few days. If the amp is biased too hot, the tubes will cook and die in a short amount of time, too cold and it will lose a little warmth and sound at least to me, a bit sterile but have more head room and the tubes will last a long time.

But surely, with a price difference of £70 ($140), the GTs are bound to be better? Or is this not the case?

No, it's not the case.
