Hey guys,

I'm currently hunting for my first tube amp, and found a Fender Blues Junior Red Texas for 500 euro (650 dollar). I was hunting for a Junior NOS Tweed (after seeing this shootout: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wG-fGrbHJhc) but I can't find that one anymore anywhere here.

So here's my question: is the Red Texas much better than the 'standard' Blues Junior? And how does the Red Texas compare to the NOS Tweed?

I love the SRV sound, but also dig Hendrix, John Mayer stuff, Beatles stuff, CCR, rock&roll and classic rock. My budget is around 650 dollar.

Hi speedo,

The only difference in the mentioned BJr models is the cab covering and the speaker. I believe that the Red is one that has the V30 speaker, and the red covering, but is otherwise identical to all other BJr amps. Which speaker is better, is up to the listener.

Yes, the Texas Red BJ was a limited edition with red livery and a Celestion V30. I can heartily recommend that driver in that amp (I have one in mine), though frankly, any repacement driver will be better than the stock BJ speaker..

if you like a solid, basic, single channel R'n'Roll/blues amp without any whistles and bells, you could do worse than that BJ.
