Hi,
I am about to buy a Fender Deluxe VM amplifier but before I do it I want to ask something about it. On Fender's specs page, it says that it is a Tube-Hybrid amp. In what way is it hybrid. Is the amp itself all valve, but the effects are digital or is it a semi tube semi solidstate amp? Also, if I use a treble booster, will it not damage it? Because the BSM RPA Major treble booster kills modelling amps and works great with tube amps. Is this a semi modelling amp. Or a proper tube amp?
Thanks and cheers

IIRC, there is a single tube in the pre-amp for the V1/V2 stage, another to perform the phase-inverter function, and a pair of tubes for the power amp. The DSP module, effects loop, and reverb are driven by IC op-amps and the power supply's rectifier uses diodes.

Good luck.

Can you please translate this into layman's terms? If I play on the clean channel whit the effects switched off is it basically an all valve circuitry? The same question about the OD channel? If we forget that it has DSP effects is it an all valve amp like a Blues Deluxe? And why does Blues Deluxe has one preamp tube more than the VM.
Cheers

In the VM, the preamp section uses solid-state (SS) components for gain stages instead of using tubes. These components are always in the signal path, even when not using any effects. The built-in effects are also SS. It looks like the lone preamp tube is used only for drive, and if so, the clean channel is all SS in the preamp section, with and without effects, and the drive channel is a mix of tube and SS. The output section, PI tube and output tubes, are the same as an "all tube" amp, with the exception of added resistors and cap on the transformer output normally seen on SS amps.

Typically, a "Hybrid" amp is a mixture of solid state and tubes, and can't be configured to be one or the other. To me, a tube amp is preferable, but the best combination of hybrid is the solid state preamp, and tube output, such as the VM, as opposed to a tube preamp and SS output. Obviously, there is a tone difference, maybe a good compromise between tube and solid state, not quite the same tone as "all tube" amp, but some want built in effects.

 I should say, looking at the schematic. I guess that looking at the amp it's hard to tell. Sorry about that.

Yeah, the schematic shows that the preamp tube is used when "drive" is engaged, and the tube is not used when "drive" is not selected. The tube output section is used for all settings or channels.

Looks like I was mistaken as well, shimmilou......12AX7's for the overdrive/saturated gain function and the phase-inverter stage......IC's for everything else.
