Hello,

I have a new Fender Super Champ XD and notice that the bass control has a peak of bass response at 7. Then it becomes less bassy as you go up until 10. Is this normal for this amp? Does anyone experience the same?

Can it be the potentiometer? Or is it digital-related?

Thanks a lot for replies.

Hello

I've found this topic because i have some problems with the bass control, too.

I bought a second hand Super Champ XD with an Eminence Legend 105 Speaker.
Definitely a great little amp for practicing.

But whatever i do, the bass control seems to have almost no effect on the sound!
Only with the Acoustic setting (Voice 16) the bass increases heavily when turning from 1 to 10 (7 seems actually to be the peak setting).
But on all other voices and channel 1 it's dissapointing. Only a TINY difference between max an min setting. Of course i testet without effects and with less gain.

So is this normal or is something wrong with mine? Probalby new tubes? (I biased the amp b.t.w.)

I used a ES-335 Epiphone with Humbuckers.

I would venture to guess that this is a DSP/software issue. Shouldn't have anything to do with tubes, speakers, or other hardware.

If the bass is 'peaking' at 7 it could be that you are going through the full tonal range and there's a scaling difference between the DSP code and the travel of the control. In other word you getting all the bass you should but there's extra travel in the control. Just guessing.

Where the bass is having no affect except on one setting really is disconcerting. The fact that it works on one of the tones tells me that the control is working. If this problem is unique to just one amp then it's malfunction and that amp needs to be fixed or replaced and Fender's expense. If all SCX2s have this issue then somewhere there's a DSP coder that needs to taken out to the woodshed.

I noticed that there's a Super Champ X2 forum just added. It appears to not be open yet.

Thanks for the reply.

I don't own a X2. It's a second hand XD which i've bought recently.

As i said, the control HAS an effect on the sound, so i don't think it's faulty.
But on Voice 16 it's like a blast compared to the others.

Some people say, that the amp is mainly built for single coil pickups. So i think the muddy Epiphone humbuckers could be a problem.

I will give it a try.
