So, what's the story with the rubber/plastic things covering the 'on' and 'standby' switches on the new '65 Deluxe Reverb? They look kinda like baby bottle nipples and feel really strange when you reach back to turn the thing on. Are they just to protect the switches in the store or something?

They are intended to accomplish the same goal as the ventilated "cage" that's attached to the upper back panel and surrounds the power tubes......which is to keep liability lawyers at bay.

...well the stupid cage was the first thing to go and the power and on switch condoms were the second. How can ya get hurt turning on a Fender amp using the regular switches? The people in this group have probably done it millions of times! And why does Fender make the backs of its amps outa cardboard now? But, all said - it is a completely sweet amp!

Cardboard?!?!?!?!?

How......ecologically fashionable!

(at least they're more "landfill-friendly" now)
