Yo Guys,
Check this out. It looks pretty interesting and won't break the Bank. It's a 5F1 Champ with quality components.

Thanks for the post, great information. From the looks of those instructions, even I could build this. Order a cab and speaker and you are cranking it :!: :!: 8)

Day-amm!

That's a nice looking kit......and it's priced right too.

The choice of output impedances should prove handy as well.

Yeah I know. Crazy stuff and fairly priced with quality components. I'm still planning on a true point to point amp build this winter, but this may be next on my list. I would go with a home made cab and a nice efficient 12 or 15 inch speaker and let it rip.

The BYOC kit is $350. For $415 you can get the Weber 5F1 kit complete with Weber built cabinet and speaker:

https://taweber.powweb.com/store/kits_50a.htm#5F1A

Interesting tidbit: Everyone calls these "5F1" but they are really hybrids of the 5E1 and 5F1. All the Fender schematics I have found show that the 5E1 has the cathode resister in the first half of the preamp bypassed and a choke is used in the power supply. The 5F1 does not bypass the preamp cathode resistor and replaces the choke with a resistor. All the "5F1" kits I looked at use a bypass cap and a resistor. That is, in fact the circuit I used with my modded Champion 600 (except I didn't use a tube rectifier).

I don't know, I'm just going by the advertisement I was emailed from BYOC. I'm sure just about all clone are modified to some degree. I believe Weber only supplies a schematic and a layout diagram. Which is fine and saves some cost as long as you know what you're doing.

I've also heard of some disappointment with some of the component quality with the Weber kits. Their speakers are top notch though. I don't know, I've never built one. BYOC seems more geared toward the novice. The component quality is top notch too. I still may build one as a head.

I'm have ordered a Weber 5F6A kit for my Xmas present, so I will soon find out about the kit quality.

The BYOC instructions would seem to suffice as a general guide for any tube kit build, especially the startup and test checkout. I have bookmarked them for use with my kit.

The BYOC stuff is first rate, I've built quite of few of their pedals for myself and some friends. Keep us posted on the Weber kit quality. Like I said, It's just stuff I've read and heard. My Xmas present from my better half is supposed to be a MOD DIY 5 watter that's true point to point, no turret board just terminal strips. I heard one in person and it's real quiet and sounds different than a Tweed. It sounds a bit like an old Supro amp I had. We'll see. Quality components are the key.
The BYOC is using Classic Tone transformers wound to vintage specs and made the old school way in the U.S.A.
Sprague, Mallory, and F&T capacitors
Carbon Comp resistors
Ceramic tube sockets; neutrik jack; and cloth covered wire

I'm curious as to what the Weber kit is using as stock parts. Are you doing the Weber with the 10" baffle? When I build one I'm using my 12's from my Egnater. Should be fun.

I've built a couple of byoc pedals and enjoyed the building, the pedals, and the value for money. I was surprised at the price for the amp kit. If you don't want to build, a VHT special 6 amp is about 250 and has been getting pretty good reviews. But a little unfair comparing a byoc amp kit to a chinese built amp, more fair to compare to a real Fender amp, then the value for money is there.
I guess like comparing byoc pedals to something like a danelectro pedal or berringer pedals, you wouldn't save any doh.
And I guess I just talked myself out of this post, but I'll post it in any case.

I've played through the VHT Special 6. It's actually a nice sounding amp. They supply the schematic and it's seems really easy to play around and mod it if you want to.
