So I finally decided to try this. I have been using the stock speaker and and a 1 x 12 ext. cab with a C-Rex, so I took it out of the cab and installed it into the Blues Deluxe...
I used a Players Deluxe Strat with Vintage Noiseless Pickups in the neck position. Volume on ten, tone in the middle. Just a cable straight into the amp..

I do a clean then punch the drive on.

Setup the amp as shown in the picture..

Here is where the mike was and it is an sm57..

Your sound shows what I found with the CR: it is a darker, more mid-rangey speaker than stock. I boosted my highs and cut the bass and mids to get a balanced sound. Less spikey and smoother than the stock speaker.

I have one of these in my Blues Jr., and it sounds pretty good now. After I got the eq re-set it nails the blues with no pedals at all when it is cranked. At lower volumes I use a Hardwire CM-2 to overdrive it and it really wails cranked up a bit...

Just have to tweak the EQ. I wanted to see the difference in the sound with the same eq settings with both speakers. It sounds dreamy with the treble boosted now...

I will give it a try tonight....
I have been pondering on that Celestion Alnico Gold, but it sure is spendy....
I might put that in the ext. cab, so I can use it with more than one amp....

Thanks !

I have gotten down to three choices, Swamp Thang, C-Rex or a weber 12F150

I have been sooooooo happy with every weber I have tried, this DRRI is old enough to have the eminence / fender speaker and the fake switch on the back (polarity).
It sounds fairly good with a few years of break in on it, just too piercing in the upper range, I'm afraid the C-Rex may go too far the other way.

My DRRI is a first-year edition (1993 tranny dates) with the ersatz "ground" switch as well. A little-known factoid, these early amps pre-date FMIC's adoption of RoHS-compliant solder across their entire product line. Thus, they're less prone to PCB issues caused by cold joints or open/intermittant circuits as a result of transit vibrations and temperature variations.

As another happy C-Rex/BDRI customer, trust me. That won't be a problem.

Here is a clean sound check..

If you can put up with my bad guitar playing, you can hear some of the tone...

Here are the EQ Settings and I have the Players Deluxe plugged into the second jack..

I don't think your giving your playing enough credit, sounded fine to me.

The sound was still way warm and a tad dark, I am wondering if the C-Rex might loose a little of the top end and get woofy in the upper ranges of volume for my DRRI ?

Thanks again for taking the time to record !!!!
