I use a fulltone ocd v.3, the lp setting has a fatter warmer tone with a smooth overdrive, the hp setting is bighter, more detailed and crisp. This is my main distortion pedal that I use more frequently.
I also have use a plimsoul by fulltoner. Its very hard to fully describe this pdal but definately worth having. Its more vesatile, with the added diode mix pot you can blend to get more drive sounds. Also, not much of a clean boost. At its lowest setting your already getting a nice crunch. Lastly, the fulltone distortion pro. Despite what its name implies, it does have that marshall typhe sound with more of a fuzz bite to it.

what if you don't use a pedal, but a stand alone hand built Rangemaster. all i have to say is if you can solder build one if you can't solder...learn. you don't know what you are missing. paying $400 to$2500 for one is a joke.you can build one for $50(parts and enclosure).you can even order parts from radio shack and don't believe the crap you read from the web that their stuff is crap. i have built five rangemasters and have used some of their parts and they work beautifuly. all the hate is from internet hype that the stuff sold on net sites is supperior. b.s. . i have two with oc44, one with a oc75, one with a to-5(u.s.)and a new one from radio shack nte158 and they all are fantastic. it's all about the input and output caps. they drive a tube amp or a solid state. try it out. you might learn something in the process. i don't yet have pics or sound clips hell i don't care if you don't believe me. just build one. you won't be dissapointed. and you can change the input and output caps to change the fequency that gets boosted. my to-5 has .1uf caps to give a full freq. boost ala tony iommi sound. good luck boys and girls. oh yeh, i forgot to tell you they work best with a dark amp or your fender amp (which are somewhat bright) made a bit dark.

I use the EC Crossroads pedal, set on the Cream Setting, makes both a Gibson and Fender guitar through a BFSR sound just fantastic :!:

They don't make em anymore, but well built and some very useful tones...and when I need a little bit o' change, I just dial it over to the 70's EC Setting and away I go.

The OCD is a great pedal. I also use some that I built from BYOC. The British Blues Overdrive is currently my favorite.

At the moment I'm using an OCD pedal by Fulltone, their latest version. I'm thinking of getting a second distortion pedal to mix with it for those times when I want a little heavier sound. I play the OCD pedal through a 65 DRRI, whose reverb/vibrato channel doesn't really like overdrive/distortion boxes. Been thinking of having a tech remove the bright cap from that channel, but have yet to get around to doing so.

Quick update -

forgot my Barber Direct drive, which is my crunch pedal and does a great job of getting overdrive/crunch out of Fenders.

I've been using 2 pedals for lead, both very different:

Keeley Katana Boost w/ AD9 Delay - great boost, just makes things louder, whether amp is clean or pedals already engaged.

Keeley Fuzz Head - liking this more and more as a solo tone, but has to be with the Direct Drive on before it. Unlike other fuzzes, plays well with other pedals, and the dunlop wah likes it very much.

I have tried the tube screamer, the OCD, boss sd-1 & blues driver. The best (in my opinion) sounding & most diverse OD petal with the DRRI is the:
Fulltone Fulldrive 2!
A wide sound diversity! Incredible!

I saw a few clips about the Plimsoul and it sounds pretty incredible. Anyone using one of those?

The Barber Small Fry Burn Unit is a great one. Very versatile and a sweet sound similar to ta zen drive.

I've been using my "home-brewed" Signa Drive. It sounds great, has some TS vibe to it, not as much mid hump, more clarity and retains the Bass without flabbing out. It has a 3-way switch option for different flavours of drive, (Diode, LED and Diode lift in the center position, which is like a cleaner "boost" with some smooth breakup).

The guts.
