Just got an MXR Badass Distortion and I like it very much.

Some of the songs we do sound better on a clean amp setting and some are better with a bit of grit. Plugging in to the Normal channel of my DRRI and using the Badass Distortion will help me get those tones.

I've got the DRRI. I was trading a guitar on CL and someone offered me a Maxon OD808. The timing when we could meet never worked out but I started looking at overdrive pedals. I was going to buy a Tube Screamer 9 and looked on YouTube and someone had a demo of a TS9 vs. Boss SD1 and they sounded the same but the Boss is less than half the price and gets excellent reviews so I settled on the Boss. Later found out about the Boss OD3 but had already bought the SD1. I never considered a Bad Monkey because the name just sounds so horrible and embarrassing. The Boss SD1 sounds amazing through my Deluxe Reverb RI and makes me want to play much more, kind of addictive. It's an amazing pedal and the only pedal I use. I'm not into the "guitar hero" thing. Surf, rockabilly, old punk, garage are my favorite genres generally. Nick Cave, The Gories, Flat Duo Jets, Bloodshot Bill, Dead Moon are the kind of guitar sounds I scramble after, anything with raw SOUL. :D

I returned the MXR Badass Distortion to the store. I guess I prefer the DRRI's natural distorted tone to anything in a pedal. Good thing the store I bought it from has a pretty good return policy.

Nice work. Could you tell me a little more about it? What grade of Stainless did you use? 304? 316? I see you polished it up with a flapper disk or some equvalent. I'm thinking you must have polished the main piece before you took it over to the brake. I see some slight discoloration between the wah the rest of the board right along the edge of the Velcro tape. Is there a seam there? Did you apply any kind of finish to it afterward? Like a clear coat? What plate thickness? Which process did you use? GMAW? TIG? Do you have any pics of the bottom of the board? I'd love to see underneath.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Brian Wampler Ecstasy and Joe Wolfe Dumbox are my current favs. Both are quiet, versatile, and offer incredible tone shaping, which is more important to me than gain, since I play mostly jazz. I do not own an OCD, but have used one, and liked it a lot. My son has the non-PCB version of the Mad Professor Sweet Honey Overdrive, and it is also way cool.

I'm still using the venerable Ibanez TS9 TubeScreamer. I just want crunch not heavy distortion. It's a classic for a reason.

Great amp. Not for those locales. If you have a smaller amp, that would help. Your amp at 7 will paralyze small animals.

For smaller shows, I either bring my Princeton or use a Dr. Z Brake Lite attenuator on the Bandmaster to bring the volume down after power tube distortion.

I'm very happy with my Timmy for adding a little bit of dirt, and the direct drive for crunch. I have a Keeley-modded TS9 off my pedalboard for rehearsal.

I'd try those three and see if it works; they all work for my Fenders.

You put a brick wall in front of that amp if you don't want your fans to bleed! :P
They sound great, but Man, those things are loud!

I got a Fulltone Plimsoul the other day. I already had a Fulltone OCD. You can't go wrong with either really. The Plimsoul is arguably a little more fuzzy and sparkly. The OCD has a slightly fatter bottom end. I suggest getting both as each has its place and are JUST different enough from each other to warrant it.

Here is a nice video that features a shootout between both:

try NOT to get offended by the reviewer's insistence on playing "man's rock".

I mentioned this earlier in this post, but since then I've really spent some time playing the Purple Plexi that my son got for Christmas.

I have an OCD v4, but I really only use it as a clean boost. I don't care for the overdrive on it at all. It's goes way too far for my taste, "fuzz" territory. It's also very dark/kind of muddy with the drive turned way up (even with single coils). It shines well as a clean boost though. Completely transparent on the clean boost setting. It all depends on what you like. Fulltone makes some good quality pedals but after owning the OCD for a few years I've found that I prefer an overdrive that is clear on all settings & not harsh.

The Lovepedal "Purple Plexi 100" is an incredible pedal. Very clear & articulate even with the drive dimed. I like it so much that I went online to get one for myself after playing through the one my son has. I couldn't get one though, it was a limited run & they're gone. I'm really glad he got one before it was too late.

Wampler makes some really cool pedals too.

Stock ts-808 and a Keeley luna overdrive through a custom vibrolux reverb. That being said, almost dont need them if all im chasing is a light mellow breakup. Also using a Xotic EP-Booster that really drives those 6L6 tubes beautifully

I'm on a Pro Jr. I like to spank it with a Bad Monkey. Some really surprisingly good tones issue forth, besides everyone likes to spank their Bad Monkey!!!!

I use a FullTone OCD and love it

Very strong and very clear

I play a lot of jazzy chord voicings (punk rock Stevie Wonder  Marvin Gaye meets My Bloody Valentine  ) and what sold me on this pedal was being able to play those fancy chord progressions with perfect clarity even with plenty of gain

I use it in many different ways. In a jam keeping the Tone and Drive at 12:00 keeps things balanced.

When recording, I push Tone nearly all the way up for the most high end detail and a very scooped sound. My 'main' setting

I love to double my guitars when recording and sometimes I will switch to the Low Pass setting to add some deep Big Muff / Smashing Pumpkins style growling fuzz underneath everything. Don't use the Low Pass setting much besides that, find it a little lacking.

Recently started experimenting with the pedal as a clean boost and I get great great thick tones that way. So fun playing stuff that I would normally play clean with some extra warmth! Inspired some funky Sly Stone style psychedelics.
