I love tho OCD and the Full-Drive, and the MXR Distortion + is fantastic with the Blues Jr., but look at a Luxury Drive. I use that with everything from non-master-volume amps like a Pro Jr. and CVR to my SCXD. the luxury drive lets me use the super champ's voicings at lower gain and then kick them up to go from grit to grease.

I used an 1981 tube screamer for years. Thought it was lost but found out earlier this month my brother still has it. Until I get that one back I use a GFS Greenie and a fuzzface clone I made.

Just migrated to a TC Electronics Nova System and hoped to dump everything else to help clean up the stage footprint I claim when setting up (territorial tussles & boundary disputes with the drummer etc.).

However, although I'm loving the Nova, it just can't cut it against my ancient Korg A5 which disappointingly I've had to retain purely for its great analogue distortion. :(

I am using the Overdrive on the Nova for SRV tones, but its much heralded analogue distortion is for me, too nasley, bright and grating on my ears.

So, I'm back to being Michael Flatley and performing a routine from River Dance between songs! I jest here - I'm very happy with where I've arrived and the Midi Moose makes the Nova so much more user friendly in a fast-moving gig environment. :)

Here are a couple of pics from the first night try-out of the Nova in its purpose built flight case: now tidied up with shorter cables customised to suit.

Feed.

I have a Boss OD-3 Overdrive that is switched on with moderate gain most of the time. I also turn up the volume on my Blues Junior until it sounds about right for lead work, then I back off my Strat's volume knob for quiet parts, and turn it up for emphasis. Finally, if I *really* want to be noticed, I throw the switch to the bridge pickup and everything just sings.

I like having multiple increments of gain that I can use in layers.

Took me long enough, but I've discovered the magic of a decent Fuzz Face clone.

I use an MXR Classic 108 Fuzz to make my 2007 Fender Princeton Recording Amp go crazy. Works for me.

I do something similar with my BJ, but diferent Overdrives.

Do you use your fat switch (pedal controlled) on the amp? For me that's the solo/lead riff button..

Instead of buying this pedal or that pedal or a massive all-in-one processor, I use this:
Image
It's from BYOC (Build Your Own Clone). It is their pedal kit called "Classic Overdrive" and is the exact clone of the Ibanez Tube Screamer TS-808.

It was a lot of fun and pretty cool to build a guitar pedal. You just need a soldering iron, solder, a steady hand, and you too can build a pedal. A digital multimeter helps out a lot, with the various color bands on the tiny resistors. Anyway, you just carefully take your time, read the instructions, and slowly solder in the diodes, resistors, capacitors, etc...etc... and before you know it, you built your own pedal! 8)

See?

Latest version of my pedalboard - the Timmy, Direct Drive and Fuzz head are all in line; the Keeley Katana and AD9 delay are my boost channel off the dual looper.

Great overdrive on my Fenders as well as on my Dr. Z.

Here's my stainless steel pedal board I made at work. Guitar->Crybaby Classic->Boss TU-2 Tuner->TS-9DX->Fulltone Fulldrive Mosfet->Fulltone GT-500->Series 10 Phaser->Line 6 DL-4 Delay-> DRRI

I have 3 overdrive pedals and the GT-500 also has a boost. I use the TS-9 for very low gain. The Fulldrive for mid gain and solos. The GT-500 for more of a Plexi type mid gain tone. The boost in the GT-500 I use for a clean boost(no drive from it). I can also get several different over-the-top gain sounds from combining different pedals. I admit though, it's a bit of an overdrive overkill. I'd rather trade off the GT-500 for a different overdrive and a separate clean boost.

I switch between the Zoom 505 and the Hardwire CM-2 tube overdrive into a Blues Junior and a MIM Strat. The Zoom gives a variety of distortion and compression while the tube overdrive has a warm tube distortion. I set the BJr to clean and let the pedals do the work.

I have a vox valve tone for a nice light OD which couples with a SD1-1 very nicely My shreadmaster sounds awesome too, i had it sat in the cupboard for the best part of 20 years and have just realised just how good it is. I bought a little big muff recently and it does not sound too good but i'm hoping it will when i use it at higher volumes.

Ibanez TS-9. I keep the gain low, volume high, and use it as a "boost" when I'm already pushing my Pro Jr. pretty hard.
