I'm also very intrigued by the Plimsoul. I'm really considering going to a shop to try one out.

Well, pulled the trigger on a Fulltone Plimsoul today. I've only messed around with it for a couple of hours but thus far I'm really, really liking it.

I've found some really nice tubescreamer type sounds AND it's also capable of making my new DRRI sound like a Marshall Plexi. This thing seems to be built like a tank too.

I own & use the Fulltone OCD v.4. To give you an idea of how versatile this pedal is I not only use it for electric, but I also use it at acoustic gigs as a clean boost for my Martin. I just set it to LP & turn the drive all the way down & adjust the volume to boost my signal.

In terms of playing electric IMO, if you're using humbuckers the OCD approaches Fuzz territory with the drive all the way up. Even with single coils mine gets too thick & almost muddy for my tastes with the drive all the way up. Personally I think this pedal shines with the drive anywhere from 0 to halfway up. It masterfully gives you everything from clean boost to classic rock to manic fuzz laden distortion!

It is absolutely an excellent clean booster & does NOT color the tone or change the EQ at all. The OCD is nothing like the tubescreamer, there is NOT a mid-range bump on v.4. I don't know about the earlier models, but to my understanding Mike Fuller designed the OCD to be different from a tubescreamer. He definitely accomplished that.

The Fulldrive 2 & Plimsoul are more like a tubescreamer. Both of them are nice pedals as well, & IMO more versatile than a tubescreamer.

Overall, the OCD is a very cool & usable pedal that I'll keep. With my Strat, I currently play it through my Classic 50 but I've also used it through a Hot Rod Deville & TRRI. The OCD sounds great through all of those amps.

I also like LovePedal. Sean designs & makes incredible pedals with incredible tones! I just bought a Purple Plexi for my son for Christmas. They haven't made them for a few years & recently they put out a "limited" run.

Check out LovePedal for smooth & sweet overdrives. I have my eyes set on the Eternity Fuse.

Is anyone using a FullDrive2-Mosfet with a BDRI or Blues Jr.? I am so close to getting one of these.. I would be using a Players Deluxe, Blacktop Strat and a standard Tele with it...

I went through a bunch. Settled on the one I could never seem to control - with a love/hate thing going on with it. As soon as I got the amp setup with the right tubes and volume/master settings I've come home to the BigMuff pi w/tone wicker. I use it on both the clean and drive settings when needed.

P.S. It really has been a journey finding the right combination of settings/tubes and pedal placement. I basically set the pedal for least amount of gain. My amp kinda has that overdriven power tube sound at the lower volumes this way.

I use a EC Crossroads pedal and use the Cream and D&TD settings and it gives me just enough of a boost. I bought it on lark, and turns out I love it and with my SFSR it takes just a bit of that top end off!

I ditched my trusty TS9 in favour of my Fulldrive 2. Awsome pedal in every way. Really versatile with a great, rich drive. Id recommed it for any guitarist except those who need high gain. That is not this pedals forte. But everything else for me it does brilliantly. Will be a permanent fixture on my board for a long while i think.
Heres the studio and gig rig.

I've been looking into OD pedals and things have come a looong way since the days of the Tube Screamer and nothing but the Tube Screamer. I've been looking at the Fulltone OCD pedal and would love to hear some thoughts from "real" owners. The Mad Professor Sweet Honey OD sounds interesting, too. Or does someone have another pedal they'd recommend? I'm still trying to narrow down my amp choice to either a Deluxe Reverb RI or a Blues Jr., if that helps any. Also, my taste in Strat tone follows the Holy Trinity: SRV, Clapton, and Gilmour.

Thanks in advance!

Steven

I use the MXR 78 Badass Distortion. Good note definition no matter how much gain you chuck at it. At full bore it borders on heavy rock but you can get some nice slightly overdriven sounds too.

Darryl- are you still digging the Plimsoul? Anymore thoughts/opinions about this pedal?

I've just about decided on getting a Blues Deluxe amp in the near future. Thinking it, along with something as versatile as the Plimsoul, will allow me to cover all my tonal bases. Fair assumption?

Yes, I'm still liking the Plimsoul very much. I used to have an OCD (among countless other various O.D. pedals) which I also liked, but it was a bit "too" transparent for what I was looking for. The O.C.D. is the way to go if you want exactly the clean sound of your amp, only overdriven.

The Plimsoul is not as transparent as the OCD but it is more transparent than my TS-9. The Plimsoul has a bit of the midrange hump that the tubescreamer pedals are known for (and which I like, although some players do not). It's got a two stage gain circuit which is really cool. You're able to get a really nice S.R.V. kind of overdrive happening with stage one's gain set fairly low and stage two off altogether. It's got considerably more gain than the O.C.D. too. As you bring up the gain of the stage two circuit, you can get very convincing Marshall Plexi tones out of a Fender amp (I'm running the Plimsoul through a DRRI). Another very cool feature is that you can bring the gain on both stage one and two up and get a nice Eric Johnson kind of "violin tone". Depending on what kind of music you're playing I'd recommend the Plimsoul very much. It's very versatile and appears to be extremely well made. It's a little pricey but for me, I think it's worth it.

Hope this helps.

-Darryl

Fulltone has some really cool video demos of the Plimsoul. Yeah...I think I'll be picking one of those up as soon as it hits the local music stores...or get on on Ebay if I can't stand the wait. The Soul Bender sounds pretty cool too....anyone ever played with one of those?

Timmy for my base Od/breakup, then stack it with either a boost ( I use an Xotic EP Booster) or another ovedrive; for me its a Zendrive or modified tube screamer. But the Timmy is the most crucial to me. It gives me a GREAT base cruch, without adding a lot of compression, and it keeps the original tone of the amp and guitar intact.

##One question: they always toute the Timmy as being great because it retains your amp/guitars tone; But like George Carlin said about cocaine just heightening your personallity and he asks, but what if you're an a hole?
Same thing w/timmy, what if your amp or guitar sounds like crap?
